I was looking to upgrade over my point and shoot camera but did not want anything very big. At some point I may move into a "better" dSLR but for the time being I was looking for something that was not very expensive or big. Something simple with a basic lens just to see if I enjoyed having a dSLR. And having used this camera for a couple of months it was a good choice. I am now able to get photos without the delay in pressing the button which has worked well so far for me. Was able to get nice shots of my family over Thanksgiving without having to rely on people posing for the shots, more candid shots due to the speed.

There may be some limitations but overall for the price/less pro dSLR I found it a good choice.

The smile detection feature is what sealed the deal. Its a great camera. The only warning is it holds 4 pictures without a memory card. I DID find an 8G memory stick duo for like $22 online so that should make it hold about 2k pics.
I didn't find the ISO pics to be too blurry... but I'm not a professional photog, just a mom :)
Anyhow, great camera, great pics. I recommend it based on the value.

Small enough to fit in my pocket, however, after 1 week, the screen got a hairline fracture. Even with the pointer pen, screen easily stores fingerprints. Buttons are hard to push with pointer, and navigating is not easy. The flash is VERY Bright (blinding - the kids no longer enjoy having their picture taken), and I have not figured out how to soften it. I have read the manual cover to cover and still have difficults getting the performance I need. First batch of pictures were VERY Grainy (my old Kodak 3.1MP camera took clearer images).

Sony replaced the screen quickly, which was very nice. Perhaps I just need to get acclimated with it more.

The Nikon D40 is an ideal way to get started with high-end digital photography. It's inexpensive, and won't depreciate much further, so there's not much risk in buying. If you're wondering if you should buy Nikon or Canon, don't worry--just buy now and learn.

I just needed a camera for fun..and I have had a Canon before. I didn't like that my old one had a rechargeable battery that didn't last long so I am really happy to find one like my old one that is a million times better in quality and it takes real batteries that LAST!! I LOVE IT!! Takes great pictures and it's super easy to use...comparing it to my old one (which was an Elph), it takes much faster pictures although you do have to hold the shutter button down to take a picture which is annoying to have to tell other people using it. Overall I highly reccommend it..takes great pictures!!!

Photo : Vivitar VIVICAM-6200W 6.0 MegaPixel Underwater Camera with 4x Digital Zoom 2.0" LCD
This camera is perfect for underwater pictures AND regular pictures! Last time we went snorkeling we made the mistake of purchasing disposable cameras - FAIL. Terrible and no depth. This one has zoom and the clarity is amazing. The colors also came out really well. It's pretty industrial - everything is easy to access underwater. It comes with an extra water proof seal ( so 2 water proof seals in case the 1st breaks). 5 stars, easy to use (actually had to read the manual, but it comes with a manual for a reason) and produced great results.

The write on screen is perfect for enhancing Native American rock art pictures on site. Often very faded rock art turns out to be a picture of a rock unless you are on site and can see the faint outlines which you can then mark on the picture. Bet they didn't think of this use!
NOw how about a bigger lcd?

This camera is small and compact, and easy to use. It takes great pictures and video outdoors when there is an abundance of light. Indoors the photos and video are extremely poor. You can change the settings indoors to allow more light into the camera but the photos are just too "grainy" to be worth anything. If you know you will be shooting outdoors mostly and want a small easy to use camera that is easy to carry with you and operate then this is worth getting. If you plan on shooting indoors or without much light in the scene this camera is not for you. Here is a link to many photos I shot with this camera. As you can see the outdoor photos are really pretty good.
