Purchased this from Amazon almost a month ago. I used it and compared it to a Nikon 5200 and Canon A610, both of which were 5 megapixel. What is shocking is the low quality of the pictures, which on close examination turn out to contain a high amount of digital noise and other signs of poor image processing. The Nikon has noisy images, but the Sony is noticeably worse than even that. The Canon is phenomenal in that area, with no digital noise and excellent shading in dark areas. The poor picture quality persisted even after setting the Sony's resolution to 5 megapixels (along with other parameters) to match the other cameras. i bought this camera a little while ago and i love it. it let's me do so many cool thing that just make the rest of the family jealous. i would recommend this camera if you like the Sony Brand for camera.

The write on screen is perfect for enhancing Native American rock art pictures on site. Often very faded rock art turns out to be a picture of a rock unless you are on site and can see the faint outlines which you can then mark on the picture. Bet they didn't think of this use! NOw how about a bigger lcd?

Small enough to fit in my pocket, however, after 1 week, the screen got a hairline fracture. Even with the pointer pen, screen easily stores fingerprints. Buttons are hard to push with pointer, and navigating is not easy. The flash is VERY Bright (blinding - the kids no longer enjoy having their picture taken), and I have not figured out how to soften it. I have read the manual cover to cover and still have difficults getting the performance I need. First batch of pictures were VERY Grainy (my old Kodak 3.1MP camera took clearer images). Sony replaced the screen quickly, which was very nice. Perhaps I just need to get acclimated with it more.

Just got this camera and went traveling with it. It's about the same size of my old Canon A40 but not as heavy. The battery life is fantastic and can be charge via your computer. The photos turn out good. Video is good too. An all around, versatile, camera in my book.

I was excited when I purchased this camera.. 12 megapixels, optical zoom! I bought it in September 2007. And it was treated so very well..no dropping, no nothing, hardly used it.. In September 2008, it started to freeze and die. Fresh batteries didn't help. Sometimes it turned on, sometimes not. Now it is permanently opened..the lens extended..and it will not turn on. I had to buy a new camera in October (Nikon- I didn't make the same mistake twice) so I could take photos on my trip to see family. I wrote several detailed emails to Kodak. They just recommended new batteries and other nonhelpful thoughts. Now I can't use the camera. Should I toss it, repair it? Don't make the same mistake I did and buy this camera based on all the "great" reviews here. Most people writing reviews here are amateurs (since only an amateur would buy this camera) and don't realize just how awful this camera's images are. I bought this camera for my sister after insufficient research, only to be shockingly disappointed. The images are simply incredibly noisy, and Sony tries to cover up this massive shortfall by adding massive amount of digital "noise correction." What causes all this noise? This is simply a bad camera with a very insensitive CCD. In very bright light, you will see noise even in darker colors. The lens is suprisingly easy to handle and hold. Canon has kept the weight to a minimum. The image stabilization works very well and the lens takes very good handheld photos. Selected this lens over the shorter telephoto with a 1.6x, because of the much better weight disbursement.
