Bought this camera after a lot of online research. I had a Sony 5 MP camera before. This one takes better pictures, the quality of the images is incredible, and the auto focus/shutter speed is fast. The menus and options are very well designed and easy to use. This camera looks great and does a fantastic job!

This replaced my Olympus Stylus 710 that was dropped 1 too many times in the 2.5 years I owned it. During those 2.5 years it had traveled all over North American and to 3 other continents and served me very well. Very small, very easy to use, tons of features and settings yet easy to just point and shoot (which is largely how I use it). The benefits of the Stylus 840 over the older camera are more optical zoom, larger lcd, and more megapixels (though for my purposes, ~6 MP is more than enough; picts with this at the highest setting are close to 2MB). I bought this for sale and thank god! I sing and this is a horrible camera for me. Maybe it's okay in the daylight with crappy sound quality but that's about it. Crap.

I bought this camera for my uncle. He doesn't know anything about photography so basically I was looking for a point-and-shoot camera that does everything automatically. The picture quality is great under good light conditions, the wide angle is a nice feature too, and its reduced size allow to carry it easily in your pocket. It has a big display, and this is also a good point. The thing I like most is the battery life, with one charge you can take 150+ pictures.

Purchased this from Amazon almost a month ago. I used it and compared it to a Nikon 5200 and Canon A610, both of which were 5 megapixel. What is shocking is the low quality of the pictures, which on close examination turn out to contain a high amount of digital noise and other signs of poor image processing. The Nikon has noisy images, but the Sony is noticeably worse than even that. The Canon is phenomenal in that area, with no digital noise and excellent shading in dark areas. The poor picture quality persisted even after setting the Sony's resolution to 5 megapixels (along with other parameters) to match the other cameras. This camcorder has couple good thing like size and can't think any other so far... Cons.: Antishake doesn't work and I believe is because the small size of the apparatus. Lotz of flare when object is bright and WORST for me is the HORRENDOUS and DISTURBING sound from the autofocus (chasing object) that you will hear in your movie so you better go for manual focus, "visual noise" if cam is set at 400 and more ISO.... you need to buy a software to edit your movie (about $60).I'm not a PRO but lack of quality electronics disgust me. Overall this cam is over priced, with SANYO brand I was expecting better performance. It's just OK to capture some moments but just that.

This is a good small point and shoot camera for the price. It is easy to use, has a very clear menu, and a very large LCD display. If you are looking for a 5X zoom with simple menus and an extra big display, this is a great deal. The downside with this camera is that the picture quality is not as good as more expensive cameras, and it does not do well in low light situations. The flash has an effective range of 9.8 feet. Beyond that range the picture will have poor focus or lots of digital noise. It says it can do 1600 and 3200 ISO, but the quality goes down in those situations. The manual says that even in 10 MB Fine mode (highest resolution) they don't recommend enlarging beyond 8 x 12 prints (which was the limitation of my last 3MP Olympus camera). I love good lenses. And I never thought something this cheap could be this good. Was looking for a cheap tele zoom to use for a trip overseas, and found this one for next to nothing. I figured, hey, it's 70-300, it'll complement the 16-45 I have and probably be good enough for 4x6 prints. Boy, was I surprised. Even wide open at 300mm this thing puts out some excellent shots (I wouldn't think twice about doing an 8x10 or even 11x14 from the results), and it handles macro on top of that. Did a bunch of macro shots at 300mm around f/8 and I couldn't ask for anything better -- the colors, contrast, everything is just... really damn good.
