I was a bit wary about buying this camera because of the conflicting reviews that I read. But I decided to take a plunge because it looked really good and the pink color was just amazing. Anyway, this camera did not disappoint me. I loved the big screen, the big internal memory, and how user friendly it is. I never had to refer to the manual to know how to basically operate the camera. THe picture quality was also okay, just the way I expected it from a point and shoot camera. I loved the extra fun stuff in the camera: the in-cam retouch and painting, the cute borders, and how one can remove red eyes in the camera itself. Overall, as a beginner, I would say that this camera is excellent. I highly recommend it to beginners like myself.

I actually have a different model, the 6.0 MP version purchased 2 1/2 years ago. But it looks exactly the same, so the mechanicals are probably the same. It was a great little camera while it lasted. Great pictures and great battery life. And as far I'm concerned, 6 MP is all I (and probably most people) really need. After exactly 12 mos the rotary function switch started to act up, switching between adjacent modes unless I kept pressure on it with my finger. It got worse with time. Then I had the apparently common "stuck lens problem"; the fix is to bang it on the table, which worked. Then, last week, the shutter button broke off while it was in my wifes purse. So I'm in the market for a new camera; it won't be another Sony.

We bought this as a replacement for an older version that didn't survive a dip in the sink (it was actually our fault and not the kids'!). I didn't want a camera with too many buttons and functions, as I use it to take pics of the kids and need to point and shoot quickly before I lose the shot. I haven't had any issues with the camera. It's worked wonderfully from day one. The change from replacing batteries to re-charging it was a great new feature, as was the simplification of the wheel (though I see they've gotten rid of it completely on the newest version). We're considdering this for a gift for my mil, who is hopelessly stuck on her film camera and has minimal computer skills. I do have to agree that bright sunlight ruins your view on the screen, but I found it to be that way on pretty much ... Read More

The Olympus 1200 camera takes great photos right out of the box and will take spectacular photographs after applying the knowledge found in it's easy to read manual. Even without the manual and using only the easy onboard guide that the camera presents, your photos will be sharp and clear. It's my opinion that those that have posted a negative response to this camera have left their posts prior to owning the camera for any length of time and learning its easy features. I wanted a thin camera for vacations/travel. This fit and the reviews looked good. However the pictures were very disappointing. We went on a cruise and the majority of outdoor pictures (pretty normal travel pics)are exposed badly; too dark, no clarity. Example: many pictures taken from the balcony of our room looking at a nearby island are not even focused, you can't see any detail of the island (too dark); pictures of the boat from standing outside are too dark. Dozens of other bad pictures. Flash consistently washed out the subject being photo'd. Truly amazingly bad pictures. Of course there could always be a user issue, however I've got other digital cameras (old Sony 3.2) that has always given outstanding pictures. The size of the camera is great and easy to use; I was happy with my purchase the only thing is that the quality of the image in the picture is not perfect. Not bad for the price.
