It sounds like a piece of crap and it is. But you will be astonished that it will make such interesting photos and how creative you can be with it. Forget all you know about the technical side of photography when it come to the Holga. Just shoot and wind and be surprised by the results.

The whole point of Lomography is the "point and shoot, don't think" spontaneous philosophy. Of course not every photo is going to look like a Kodak commercial; they're not supposed to. This camera will take photos that imitate that faded quality of Polaroids, and once you get your film cross-processed, the result will be surprising and beautiful. Since the camera is manually advanced, take advantage of double-exposing your film. The only concern that I have for my camera is light leaking in, so I buy black electric tape to tape up the seams. It gets a bit tedious, but it makes it possible so that I'm not wasting my shots. Try the color flashes too... very interesting feature of this camera.

I fnd it very funny to be able to outfit these (much less than profesional) cameras with tools that help to make professional images. The shutter release works as advertised, doesn't hurt the wallet, and is really necessary (because getting a crisp focus with these cameras is hard enough to begin with).

Okay, buy this if you want a fun, low-quality, inherently do-it-yourself, medium-format film experience. Whew, that's a lot of qualifiers! What you get here is a simple 120 camera, with a simple flash, and possible light leaks. You should be prepared to futz with the camera, seal up light leaks if you don't want them, adjust the shutter, etc. My suggestion if you're interested is to use this with B&W film, develop the film yourself, and scan the resulting negatives onto your computer. That way you get the best of the film world, the emulsion and the processing, along with the ability to actually use the resulting pictures. This is definitely not for everyone. Know that you want an "artsy" camera before buying.

This flash, being used with a Holga 120N doesn't do anything more than is advertised. For the price though, it is a great product. It fired on time, every time and works surprisingly well in closer distances.
