I was looking for a small point & shoot digital, and both my mother and my father own PowerShot cameras and have nothing but great things to say about them. I went back and forth between the SD870 and the SD850 and finally decided on the SD850 because it had the viewfinder. I don't use a viewfinder often, but it has come in handy in the past on my other digital camera. I've been really happy with the SD850 - excellent pictures, easy to use for the most part, as I get used to where certain features and functions are in the menu. I bought this camera for my trip to the States recently, and all I can say so far is, absolutely great! Bought from Amazon.com and delivered in 2 working days - spot on! I have to admit, I am one for trying to use something without having to bother with reading instructions. Thankfully, this camera is definately user-friendly. It is so easy to use. Sure there are more sophisticated options available to use on this camera, that will I probably need to address the manual for but, for a camera that you can just pick up and shoot impressive photos straight away, this baby does the trick. So far, I'm very happy with my Canon A590IS Digital Camera. I've taken a couple of hundred photos, good quality on automatic settings. I was most delighted to learn I can record up to a hour video (with my 4 GB card), though the sound quality is not so good, it's fun to experiment with. Much yet to learn about its other features.

For primarily social situations not requiring long telephoto lens etc. this camera with its large LCD, face detection and image stabilization capabilities is almost ideal for non-professionals and then with the added wide angle lens well that does make it ideal for group pictures and casual on the go shots. The size makes it a handy carry around point shoot that doesn't intrude into the picture composition like some other "larger" point shoot cameras. Menu selections are easy to understand and playback review a separate button. Great camera.

While I am not a professional by any stretch of the imagination, this lens is an excellently priced for an excellent portrait lens. Used with my Rebel XT, results are great. Although prime lenses aren't for everyone, this is a great addition to an amateur's collection.

Bought this camera to replace my Nikon D70. I've been a Nikon user for years however my D70 was starting to do strange things including reformatting the memory card at will! I bought the camera after reading the review on dpreview. Took the Canon to Scandinavia, taking about 2,500 shots via a Sigma 18-200mm OS lens(I wish canon would produce such a lens however the results with the Sigma were excellent). This is a feature loaded camera which will appeal to the amateur and prosumer as well. The menus are excellent, very intuitive compared to the D70. Highly recommended.
