This lens is very reasonable price wise to buy, and the pictures you will take with it are great! I like to use it for portraits. It also does a very good job of blurring the background in your pictures too. If this one we had broke or anything, I'd definitely buy another one.

We are happy with the camera. Gave it 4 stars because we haven't had the camera that long to play with.

excellent fixed lens. Works well on my nikon d50. Apperature range works great for all lighting conditions. If you are using a DSLR this lens ends up working like a 75mm lens so if you are looking for a straight up 50mm lens, make sure you buy a dedicated digital lens (DX lens for nikon users). All in all a fantastic lens for the money.

I recently bought this lens with high hopes. I wanted to replace my Tamron 18-200 macro lens that I've dropped twice, and which now creeps terribly when pointed downward. Imagine my horror when I discovered this much vaunted Nikon lens does the same thing, brand new! A friend contacted Nikon, who told her that "excessive" creep can be adjusted somewhat, but the lens will always creep to some extent due to the way it's made. So if you never want or need to shoot something below you, buy all means, buy this lens with confidence. Otherwise, caveat emptor!

All in all a nice lens. The capablity of the 55-250 allows for several different shooting techniques. I was very impressed with the lens. Macro shooting was ever possible at semi-close distances. Good bang for the buck.

This is a great lens for the average photographer who is looking to get some up close shots and not have to spend a lot of money. I definately recommend going with the VR. I primarily use it outdoors and for sports/athletics. Good picture quality but needs good light. I haven't taken many pictures indoors but don't expect it to provide as good of pictures as outdoors.

This is an amazing lens to buy. Granted, it seems a little on the pricey side, when compared to the 1.8, but the overall quality is worth the money. The physical build is much better than the 1.8 and it's sharpness is preferable over it's cheaper cousin (especially in the 1.x region - in comparison).

A great buy for anyone that needs a quick, all-purpose lens (great for indoors).

The lens meets my expectations. I'm disappointed with picture quality at 300mm, blurry - definately need a tripod.
I'm angry about an added charge for New York sales tax. I'm not a resident of NY. Amazon wouldn't ship the item to an APO address (which our federal government declares must be viewed as a US address); so I had it delivered to a family member in NY, then forwarded to me. I was shocked to see the previously undisclosed charge added to my bill.

Let me say that I haven't used this lens in a few years. I am now using much more expensive L series lenses. I still have the photos that I took with this lens on my hard drive, however, and technically they are great. For the price of this lens they are remarkably great. Very low distortion, no CA and razor-sharp images. I am saying this after looking at pictures just this week, after a few years of honing my photo skills and my photoshop eye. I am very sensitive (some have said too sensitive) to defects that can only bee seen at 100%-200% and I do not see any in the pictures taken with this lens. I have seen many when looking at the pictures from the 85mm f1.8 lens, for instance.

The lens was mated with a Rebel XT when I took those pictures, incidentally, which frankly it is meant to be. This is not ... Read More
