I got this camcorder so my husband would have something else to use instead of his camera phone for short little videos. I love how small it is and that it is so easy to use. When my 19 month old is doing something we don't want to miss you can very easily grab this and start filming immediately. I have not tried downloading any photos/videos to the computer. I am using the dvd-r for most of the video because there is no having to download it's right on the disk and I can pop it into my dvd player. I did buy the memorex dvd's and everytime you turn the camcorder on it tells you you should be using sony products. This is annoying. It is not uncommon for people to purchase other brand items if they are a little more reasonable in price. I also found that alot of the prices on amazon for ... Read More

Item arrived in time. Bought it for my brother. Tested it and works well. What I like about it is the zoom (41x). My only concern is one has to slide the lens cover manually. I was used to DC40 which is more automatic. Overall good buy.

This camera is light, small, very intuitive and easy to maneuver. I chose the Canon DC330 over the DC310 because this model has the USB connection. I like recording on DVDs because I need to backup my computer anyway. Sound quality is very clear.

Great VDR, especially for the price! I need to keep it simple...or I won't ever see the footage. This VDR has just that. Very nice picture, great zoom, and simple to use. Would recommend this to anyone who doesn't need complicted devices in their hectic life!

Maybe I'm asking too much for a $250 product, but I feel a little misled. In addition to the MiniDVD record capability it has a flash memory where you can take video and pictures too. The product came out this year, so I thought I could use a couple larger flash memory cards and mainly record video that route. Once I get this, I learn it only takes 2GB cards (no SDHC). So I buy 4 2GB cards and a 3pack of MiniDVDs, figuring I'd just use flash memory and that would be easy enough for most of my recording. The first time I put in an SD card and see that the screen switches from 16:9 to 4:3 on me. I discover that it only records 4:3 on SD. And I learn that it records in MPEG4 for SD memory (versus MPEG2 on the DVDs). I understand their MPEG4 has proprietary codecs, etc. I tried importing video into ... Read More

Sony DCR-DVD308 works beautifully and seems well put together. It's light, compact, convenient and generally well designed. Operation is very easy, though it is so light it is very difficult to keep steady on a long zoom, and the zoom is extremely rapid and difficult to make unobtrusive - both probably what you get in this kind of camera. It may be a wonderful camera if you just want to watch what you shot, conveniently immediately, on your living room DVD player. Not so much if you want to edit it for anything other than YouTube. The problem seems to be the specific MPEG-2 compression for mini-dvd storage (which is not limited to Sony). I shot one dvd and then tried to edit it, which was a bit of a nightmare. I did manage to find a converter so I could edit in Adobe Premier Elements but the result was jumpy movement and ... Read More

Recently purchased this camera before leaving to meet our Italian relatives for the first time in Italy. What a nightmare! The camera would not, no way, initialize the discs that were recommended for purchase with the camera. Very disappointed not to have had a video memento of a trip we had planned for many years. We purchased a battery charger and an additional battery for this camera, and now cannot return it. A lot of money wasted, although we did receive a refund for the camera itself. I'm giving this a one star rating only because I can't leave no stars! Buyer beware.

This is my first camcorder & I really love this product. The quality of videos taken is amazing. Battery life is also good. The best feature which I liked is support for memory stick. With DVD you cann't shoot more than 20 minutes with high quality but with memory stick there is no such limitation. I strongly recommend this product to others.

I bought this camcorder about 1 year back and it was working fine for first 5-6 months and then suddenly during our trip to Seattle I started having problems. Camcorder records for a while then gives message saying "Disk cover open accidentally. Turn on power again" and when I do that then all the recording is erased and it starts all over again. I have lost two dvd recordings due to this problem.

I contacted Sony support and they just keep on telling me to make sure battery is charged and try using different discs. I tried using different discs (different formats as well...) but to no avail. I don't know what to do.

I urge all you prospective buyers to stay away from this product.
