This review is geared toward complete newbies (such as myself) who are coming from the point-and-shoot world. I purchased this camera due to a budget constraint and after reading numerous reviews. For what you features you get, you simply cannot beat the price for an entry level DSLR camera. You may have looked at the XSI (as I have) and have been tempted to put forth the extra $100 or so to get that one. My review: I like it. The reasons are: The battery lasts 3 times longer than if it were in the D200. It's a tad smaller than the D200, and lighter. It has a dynamic range similar to film: by retaining detail in shadows and highlights. Slightly more sensitive in low-light. Slightly better image quality than the D300; superior image quality than the D200. Uses SD, SDHC memory cards that are much smaller than CF cards. It is all the camera one needs for photographs up to 4 feet by 5 feet. I've used it professionally: it is dependable. Automatic program mode makes the D90 useable for beginners. I am fairly new to photography. Last year I got the D40. I just upgraded to the D90 because I was tired of futzing with the white balance of the D40, and I wanted more low-light sensitivity (better ISO), as well as the flexibility of using faster lenses, many of which are not AF-S. I have been very impressed with the D90. I'm comparing it to the D40. The things that I think are important are ranked from most to least important. 1. Active D-lighting (ADR). This has gotten me photos with large dynamic ranges of light (highly shaded subjects with a bright background) that I would have otherwise botched. I was using a XTi before, then moved up to the 50D. Originally, i was only for the enhanced pix count. When started using it, at least two things exceeded my original expectations. 1. the high speed shots when am doing birding -- incrediblly caught each frame thought cculd be missed. this definitely provides me other new possibilities for sporting as well as HDR bracketing. 2. the live view AF-ON's live and face-detect modes. i could not over state how big it helped out for the shot on my wife's food blogging. She said it won't be possible to get such a high mark now without those those helps. 3. one more thing, the LCD and those customizable features...awesome. i like the IQ too, incredible.

This camera is amazing for its price, specially the optical zoom is absolute fantastic. I have used in football games and got the absolutely great snaps of players. Quality is simply awesome. I love it. Easy to use and easy to click.

This is a great camera for someone wanting to get started in professional digital SLR photography. It's going to be a great backup camera for us as well, it does decent in low light and not much issue with noise, though 3200ISO is pretty much unusable due to the high noise, but 1600ISO is quite acceptable if you have to get the shot. Great price now too and well worth it. Though I don't understand why people buy these cameras thinking they'll do better than a point and shoot if they're never going to take it out of Auto mode, and never going to by an external flash. If you plan on using this camera like a point and shoot consider getting the G10 instead, as it's an awesome little pocket camera and does right for the job! :)
