my old camera was getting worn out. i knew i had to look for a new one, but wasn't sure about digital ones. i was afraid that i would need a DVD burner to make DVDs and did not want to store all the videos on my hard drive, because i could lose them any time (you never know when a virus may strike). anyway, i almost lost hope, thinking that vhs cameras are long in the past. luckily, i was wrong. i love this camera! it's very convenient. it has a great screen, so you see what your taping, and you can flip it over to tape yourself! neat!!! i would definitely recommend this product to people like me, who like some things old-fashioned way!

This camcorder was purchased as a gift for my daughter and used about 12 times over a 6 month period before experiencing intermittent failures. The labor warranty on this unit is only 90 days and labor costs for repair approach the original cost. It is unconscionable for Panasonic to market a defective product like this. This reflects poorly on their other products and unless they address this issue with me, I will avoid their products and advise others to avoid their products as well. I might chalk this up to one defective unit if I hadn't read other accounts of the same issue. This is a manufacturing or design defect that has not been addressed by Panasonic.

I have purchased this handycam and I find that the videos/picts cannot be loaded onto the system (p.c) through the usb port.When I asked the seller (I am in India,as is the seller) about it,he said that a "DIGITAL POWERSHOT DISKETTE FOR PANASONIC PVL 453.?Could anyone let me know if such a thing is available in the U.S?If so how do I procure it? I am a first time buyer at Amazon.com I have a limited income and wanted to give my son his Christmas wish this year. He wanted a camcorder and they were all sold out in the stores. I purchased the Quasar from Ananth and prayed that I would be pleased with my purchase. I was a little confused about the delivery process of my new camcorder; but Ananth really walked me through the process and the wait. I want to let anyone who does purchase any products from Ananth in the future that they can count on her to be honest and professional. I purchased this model in March 2002 and in May 2003 - it just quit working! I thought the battery had run out - recharged it -nothing! Bought a new battery - still nothing. All it'll do now is make a click noise when you switch to camera or vcr. Cant even get my tape out of the damn thing now! Call Panasonic - what a joke! They wanted $149.00 for a diagnostic test and $102.00 service charge - I only paid about $300 for it new. I'll never buy another panasonic again - the service was terrible and they are not helpful AT ALL! Good luck if you buy one - get the extended warranty! They should sell them for $50.00 and just make them disposable!

I concur wholeheartedly with all the good reviews here--we've had this camcorder for many years now and have shot hundreds of hours of video with it. It's great! One possible design flaw is the rotating eyepiece or viewfinder. Over the years the ribbon cable inside it wore out and I had a dickens of a time finding another. There are parts lists several places but no diagram to determine the part number, even from RCA (Thomson)service centers. If your display has gone to black and white or otherwise fritzed out, try moving the eyepiece down toward the stored position and see if it comes back (mine did, in green). If so, this cable is likely what you need. The part number for the cable is TCE 244342, and with shipping it ran about $30. Well worth it to keep this camera going. Order from Thomson ... Read More

I bought a Panasonic Camcorder a few years back. I continually got a Dew Detected message. Got that fixed and shortly there after the sound was intermitant as noted in so many other reviews here and elsewhere - though I did not know it at the time. So I gave Panasonic another chance. I bought this model and it worked fine again for about a year or so...Then, Halloween comes around and the sound is not there, then there, then so low you can barely hear it then static then back. Needless to say as with others the moment was lost, FOREVER!
