I had 4GB card free with purchase of this Garnet colored camcorder. It lasted about 1.1 hours in SP quality. I took this to some caverns at Shenandoah National Park and the videos turned out to be OK. Battery life was better than my team caver's Sony flash camcorder. In addition to being so cute and made in Japan (hard to find these days), it is quite impressive in low light settings. I just used easy mode in the caves. At first, when I checked random reviews here (mostly negative), I was worried about low light in the caves. I won't repeat what other reviewers said. For files, it was not organized as per time sequence. I did not initialized the memory card and not sure it caused the case. It should not be. I'll try again in this weekend and update my reviews. I got this camcorder so my husband would have something else to use instead of his camera phone for short little videos. I love how small it is and that it is so easy to use. When my 19 month old is doing something we don't want to miss you can very easily grab this and start filming immediately. I have not tried downloading any photos/videos to the computer. I am using the dvd-r for most of the video because there is no having to download it's right on the disk and I can pop it into my dvd player. I did buy the memorex dvd's and everytime you turn the camcorder on it tells you you should be using sony products. This is annoying. I received one of these as a promotional. Functionally, it was totally cool. I dropped it. It broke. Done. It was a small drop. The type of drop my regular camera has experienced multiple times. The type my mobile phone has experienced multiple times. Etc. Nope. Dead. If you do buy one, buy yourself a case for padding - but the plastic is pretty thin stuff. Or buy yourself a camera that can do all these things and not break after a little wear and tear.

I think this is the best you can do without going into the prosumer +$2000 level. Here is what sets it apart from the average cheap camcorder: 1. The ability to shoot progressive frames. This is invaluable for those filming for the internet. Plus, progressive frames compress better; one of the reasons store bought movies look better than average joe's. 2. The ability to white balance. Especially with blue/green screening, this is very helpful. Good luck finding it on the average consumer camcorder. 3. Native 1920x1080 sensor times 3. This camera is not FakeD - it's real HD. When it scales, it scales DOWN, not up. It has three sensors for each primary color of light, and the sensors are larger than the Panasonic DVX100's (which is around $2,300). Granted the DVX100 is an SD camera, but it sure helps.
