What an amazing camera! My wife is pregnant right now and we got this camera to document our pregnancy and birth a so on. The second I saw the image quality I was blown away. We definitely have no regrets with our purchase, especially at that price. I was also really impressed with the audio quality. It operates super fast and quiet.

I purchased the HG10 through Amazon to do video auditions which require download to my computer. Amazon got the camera to me within 24 hours. Other than some terrible instructions, the camera worked great and I was totally satisfied with it. The problem came when I tried to download to my computer which has an AMD processor. I exceeded all specs, but couldn't get the Corel download software to work. After numerous calls to both Canon and Corel, I gave up. Corel said I had loaded the software and therefore wanted $15 to give assistance. I tried to explain that it had never worked at all. Canon said they couldn't find anyone who could intercede. One terrific camera. Months of research paid of 100 times over with this little gem. A palm size HD camcorder that is user friendly, takes great movies, and under a grand. Enough said, buy one.

This sd camcorder feels very cheap, has limited controls and so so quality video however for the low price is about worth what you pay. It will not give you mini DV quality or DVD camcorder quality. I also have a Sanyo Xacti waterproof and it is much better built and much better quality video. If price is your only concern, get this camcorder however if quality plays any part, spend extra money for a better product.

I bought got the HV30 on Amazon about a week ago and the camera was exactly what I hoped for. When I first shot in HD I never thought it would turn out the way it did. Its INCREDIBLE. I play xbox regulary in HD and have a lot of knowledge when it comes to picture quality and all I have to say is holy $#it. Amazing. Its easy to use and sexy looking, small sleek. The led light is cool too, nice and bright!. You dont need HD miniDV for high def, normal ones work. Be sure you have a firewire cable and a firewire port on your computer for the DV and HDV. Keep in mind there are certain programs that dont let you edit HD video, but the ones I am sure of are Sony Vegas and Pinnacle Studio. This HD video camera got excellent picture quality at full HD, even at night mode. In super night mode it will lag, but it did pretty good anyway. There where almost no light at all, just a moon and a porch light about 100 feet away. The only complaint with this camera and the reason for only 4 stars, is when I tried to tape the Nascar race I went to (Brickyard), the camera would shut down while recording. I'm guessing the sound from the cars going by max out the camera with motion and sound. Other than this, I like this camera and it would get 5 stars.

Recording your HD video to a hard drive, or memory stick, really is a vast improvement over recording to tape. I just made the switch, felt just like when I switched from reel to reel or cassette to CDs...being able to scan through your video clips by viewing the first frame really enhances the usefulness of viewing what you captured versus hitting forward and rewind looking for a certain spot on tape. Sony has a one button feature that moves your video from the camera to a computer, incrementally, so was easy to get a copy of what was on the camera to a second device for backup every so often. Biggest negative for me was position of camera in your hand, I found it harder to aim this camera comfortably at subjects versus the smaller DCR-PC7 format Sony I am replacing.

I bought this camera as I had fallen in love with the form factor and the fact that it records on SD cards. I am a professional camera and Steadicam operator for a prime time network TV series. I was expecting a camera that had good quality, but did not have higher expectations, knowing that it is a sub 1000 dollars camera. It did surprise me on how well it was built, how the menus were easy, yet highly customizable. I loved the feel in my hands, the dock, pretty much all about it, including the good (but not fantastic) picture quality, except the image stabilization. That unfortunately, was unacceptable. The camera is a technical marvel. I've been wanting an HD camera ever since they came out. The HDC-SD9 has not dissapointed me. Five years ago you'd have to pay tens of thousands of dollars to get video this good. Now the downside. The files are kept in a complex file structure on the memory drive. I wasn't able to copy the MTS files from the /STREAM folder and play them on my T61 Thinkpad. I tried downloading various CODECs and stuff, but wasn't succesfull. I finally loaded the HD Writer software from Panasonic and that worked. But when I exported to MPEG the result was lousy. I haven't tried editing software with it yet, but I know this much. It will be another two to three years before this format plays in all the media players. But I can't see this format failing so I'll be glad I have my kids in HD later ... Read More

This junk broke within months of getting it. I was so careful with this camera, but it just stopped working. The joystick part broke and now I can not change modes or play back video clips.
