We bought our first Canine Cooler about a year ago after our male (2-1/2 years old, 50 lbs.) mellowed out enough that we could trust he wouldn't chew through the mat. (He did this with a couple of his mats that we bought for him when he was 10 mos.-1-1/2 years old.) First, it has lasted and has not been punctured by his nails. Second, it has made his crate a much more comfortable place as it acts as a kind of waterbed. Third, it does seem like it has a nice cooling effect in that our male starts out in the bathroom (tile) and then when he has sort of heated the tile with his body, he moves to his crate where he lays on the mat for the rest of the night. I'm purchasing my third one of these beds in 9 years right now--which tells you two things: I like the product, but it only seems to last for about 3 years before the side seams split. The mat is very effective at keeping cool as long as you don't put it directly in the sun or in a hot car. My dogs have loved it and used it consistently during the hot weather. The same company makes a cool mat pillow for people (the "chillow") and I'm thinking about getting that for myself this year too!
