This undercoat rake is well-constructed and works well. I bought this for a fluffy cat, so my only wish for improvement is that there be a cat-sized one made.I tried the 'furminator' for $25-30 and it was awful. This is much better priced and works a great deal better. The rotating teeth more easily through my cat's thick undercoat. It has some weight to it, so at least for a cat (and I'd think small dog) you have to be aware of the weight and not comb too hard. The teeth rattle when you use it, but my cat doesn't seem to mind at all. She loves being brushed by it (and ran away from the furminator). This is the only rake I have found works to remove the excess in her downy undercoat.

This dog rake is incredible! It does not pull the hair and gets ALL of the undergrowth without stress to the dog. Be prepared to get covered with hair the first several times you use it (maybe use it outside). The hair justs comes off and leaves the coat silky and smooth. I looked at other websites for this item and it was twice as much. I plan on sharing this info with lots of friends with dogs so they can benefit from this wonderful product. It was suggested by a dog groomer friend of mine and after trying hers I ordered one as soon as possible.

I have 3 dogs and now have some of this stuff in each room of our house. It's crazy how well it works. We keep a jar on a bookshelf in our bedroom (we sleep with the 3 dogs--big--2 Goldens and a Vizsla--in our room with the door shut) and I can always tell when it's gone, because I can start to smell the dog smell in our room. When the jar is full, I never think about it because the room smells normal--no dog odor, no weird chemical smell. I also keep a small spray can downstairs and spray it when the dogs come in from the rain (I live in Seattle) and bring their odor with them. Mega-Tek conditioner is very dense and it only takes a tiny bit to condition and entire dog. Problem spots (where you want more hair growth) should get an extra dose, but I usually dilute this conditioner in warm water as a drench and do not rinse it out. Great value for the money. And the dogs smell good enough to eat (if you like coconut). Not overly perfumy, but definitely makes them NOT smell like a typical "wet dog"...! I use this product in conjunction with Micro-Tek shampoo - and all of my dogs have a good result from this shampoo/conditioner combination. Micro-Tek Shampoo was recommended to me by a friend. My Westie had terrible allergies and was always scooting along the ground to rub her belly. This shampoo-used along with the Pet Spray from the same company-has worked a miracle on her. It is used every 10 days and stays on 5 minutes before rinsing. She is no longer itchy and only occasionally rubs her belly on the ground-mainly out of habit! This product smells so good and will not burn or hurt the animal in question. I have tried many products, but this one is a keeper. If you have an animal with hot spots/itchy spots, do not hesitate to purchase this product. I would also highly recommend the shampoo in combo with the spray. If you were only going to purchase one product...then make it the spray.
