I recently adopted a 10-month-old Shih Tzu puppy and was given a food bowl by the previous owner but needed a water bowl. I have been very pleased with this bowl in the month that we've been using it. I love that the insert comes out so that I can just take the insert to the sink and fill it vs. taking the whole bowl. It looks great, it works great, and I'm very happy that I chose this brand and this bowl.

I always use these in my dogs' crates because they hold a significant amount of water, provide easy access to the dogs, and deliver a measure of spill control thanks to the removable lip. Great for traveling as well. I've since stocked up on both the small (Lanca 1) and the large (Lanca 2) cups for food as well as water. The strong clips provide a sturdy grip onto crate bars. These heavy duty, portable cups far surpass those light-weight, shallow, white plastic cups sold in most pet stores, which are best used for birds rather than dogs.

First of all, I know that on the other versions of the fountain (with or without this extra reservoir) there were reviews stating that the fountain was noisy or that their cats would not drink from it. This was not my experience, the fountain runs pretty quietly you just need to make sure there is enough water in the bowl (enough to cover the little hole at the base of the bowl where filtration gets cycled through.) You will need to give your pets time to adjust. My two kittens are 6 months old and they have always drank from a bowl. When I first hooked up the fountain they stuck their paws in and played a little, but mostly looked at it nervously for a couple days. I think every great pet lover should buy the Drinkwell Pet Fountain. You should buy the 70 oz. reservior so that when you go on vacation your pet will have plenty of water. I was gone for a week and the extra 70 oz. held up while I was gone. I had bought my first Pet Fountain from a Pet store and paid alot more for it. When it gave out , I went to Amazon and they got me ALOT better price. I would highly suggest you love your pet enough to give him (or her) the best and buy this product to show you care !!!

The filters are very easy to replace for the Hagen Catit fountain. I have also been known to rinse them out and reuse them while waiting for the next shipment to arrive and they continue to filter out the majority of cat fur even if the carbon is spent.

We previously we had this model (the Petmate Deluxe Fresh Flow) for about 2 years. The motor ran well and it never broke, so I gave the fountain itself a review of 2 stars. But these filters are terrible in comparison to the design of the Drinkwell Platinum fountain. Drinkwell Platinum Pet Fountain and Drinkwell Premium Replacement Filter Cartridges (3-Pack) The newer Drinkwell's filters are designed SO much better (6 tightly divided coal sections). The fabric used in the Petmate's filter loosely holds the coal and so the coal clumps down at the bottom. The water easily flows up and over the coal, and does not get filtered (I believe the coal is divided into 2 sections... its been a couple of weeks since I tossed the whole product).
