This was the only gate I could find that would fit on my spiral staircase that was metal. I had to buy the kit, but it fit on the stairs without drilling holes or hardware. It is a little difficult to operate at first, and nealy impossible to do it with one hand, but I guess that makes it more difficult for your child to operate. Would recommend it if you have to put a gate on stairs where there are banisters and no where to mount hardware.

used product for nearly a year. no injuries. no gate failures. Took my 4 year old 4 months to open. 2 year old still can not open it. IT IS solid, even with the largest available extension. Had to attach bungie cord for times I wanted gate to remain open, but am VERY thankful I bought this truly self closing gate. I used the gate with extension at the top of my stairs, along with a homemade wall protector and a board to transform my rail spindles into a flat surface. I also own a plastic gate from a department store. My 20# dog, 2 and 4 year olds displace it easily, but not this one. Andy Griffith would be proud.

We bought this gate to go in front of our wood stove. It fits my hearth perfectly. It is big enough to go completely around it. As a play yard it is small. But the door works great and the metal is durable. Love it.

Finally, a gate that the sneaky guy can't get thru. Once you figure out the locking system (it's a bit different)this is wonderful for keeping the small ferret out of where you don't want him to be. No holes to go thru the sides and no net to climb up and over. I will buy another one when the plastic baby gate from One step wears out that I bought 5 years ago that is now [........]. I am sure this would be great for baby too.

The Richell One-Touch does what it says it will do. It is easy to install even in an old house where nothing is square. It operates with one hand and the fact that it swings both in and out makes it very adaptable. It is the best gate for child or beast that I have ever found bar none.

The North States extension kit for their metal playard is awesome! It added enough space to our playard to make it comfortable for several little ones to play. It was easy to attach to the original kit, and this gate system in general is so easy to break down and transport. I highly recommend this if you have a large space to make off-limits or you would like to use it as we do, as a large playard.

We installed this gate at the top of our basement stairs just before our daughter turned 1 in August. I installed it without my husband's help, and it was very straight forward. It seems quite sturdy, and it closes with a click so you can be sure it is latched. This gate was recommended by Consumer Reports, and I missed all the reviews about the locking mechanism. So far, we've had no trouble with the lock, but the gate is only used once or twice a day. I was thinking of purchasing the same gate for our second floor, but, as that one will get more use, I'm rethinking my decision. One thing I'd note is that it is a bit difficult to open the gate one handed at the top of the stairs since you have to push the knob in and pull the gate open at the same time. We got this for our pet rabbit, who gets a whole room to himself. I was skeptical when the fully-assembled gate first arrived because it was light and seemed flimsy, plus the packaging was literally plastic wrapped around the gate, with a paper insert. But once we got the gate into place in a doorway (following the paper's exact instructions), we were surprised by how secure it was. Seriously, we ourselves (2 able-bodied adults) couldn't yank it out of the doorway unless we tried really hard. Some random stuff that may be good to know: The gate is high enough to keep bunnies from escaping, but is still low enough for us to step over to go into his room.
