This design of this gate is a nice idea but it did not work correctly for us. It would't close, you had to slam it, and many times it still didn't close. We returned it and got a lift and lock gate for half the price, it works much better.

This is a great cat/small dog door. It allows you to set the door 4 different ways: 1) opens both ways; 2) locked both ways; 3) only opens into the house; and 4) only opens out of the house. It is much more attractive than other similarly priced cat doors. We have been using it for a while and it is holding up quite well. Magnets hold the door closed, so the wind doesn't blow it open, but my cats don't have to push as hard to open it as they did with another door -- which is a plus because my cats didn't like having to push hard -- so it is probably easier to train cats to use this door than harder-to-open doors. I'll buy this door whenever I need to add a cat door.

The Bindaboo pet gate that I purchased does the job. Good things include the way it interfaces with the wall surface, and the ability to open in either direction. The self-closing functionality is also good but I'd guess that's pretty standard on gates. Not-so-good things include the funky latch and imperfect alignment. These might be fixable with a little tweaking but I haven't had the time to mess with it. As it turns out, the gate closes and latches with what I'll refer to as the first set of latches but the second latch doesn't do much because of the misalignment. However, this works out well for me because it's easier to open. I'd probably find a way to make the second latch not work if it did work. We purchased 5 of these 6 months ago for our 5 cats that have 5 special diets. We mounted them on wire sided dog crates with the food in the back to prevent the door for staying unlocked as the pet ate and from searching paws from stealing food. They work great! Now we can go away and leave the automatic feeding bowls to feed meals and not worry that one is eating another's special food. Only problem our fat cat is smart and realized it only takes the cat with the right collar (3 collars available) being near the door to open that door and he gets in to eat thei food. The others though know their food is only in their own crate so don't even try the other doors. So if you try it this way crate train the cat first that dinner is only served in that crate then add the door it works great.

No animal should ever be put in an exercise ball. They are dangerous and stressful for all animals. You may think your animal is happily rolling around. It's much more likely that they are running in fear, trying to get away from the ball that is containing them. Or, sometimes the animal will just sit there in misery, not moving at all, waiting to be freed. Most rodents/small animals have poor eyesight. In a ball their vision is even more limited. What always happens when they are in the ball?? They run into furniture and walls, which they don't see coming. It's like a car crash for them. They back up to try and get away and crash into something else. It's extremely stressful. There is also the risk that they could roll down stairs or become a "toy" for a larger family pet, ... I have used 4 different kinds of gates and wanted just one more "cheap" one for the kitchen. Upon arrival I lifted it out of the box and it felt very flimsy. Then when I went to put it in the doorway I barely pushed down on the arm and it snapped completely off. I can only think that it must have already been cracked and I just didn't notice. You get what you pay for.
