I purchased an Epson Printer, the C86 model when I bought my computer, 3+ years ago. It worked fine for a short time, then I started to notice broken, faded and white lines through everything. I couldn't print a picture without lines all through it. I cleaned the heads regularly, purchased only the Epson brand ink and did everything else I was supposed to. I contacted Epson and they sent me a new printer, not even requiring that I send back the defective one, which really told me something about the product! The one they sent is the C88 model. It worked better, and for a longer time than the first one, but after several months it started doing the same thing as the C86 model. As has been stated by others, the ink is VERY expensive, and these printers use a whole lot of it. It was actually less ... Read More

I had an HP Fax 1010 for my home office, and it was a trouper - always worked great. But then HP had a recall due to potential fire hazard, and offered a rebate on several of their faxes and multifunction fax/printer/scanners.

So I went for the M1391F MFP. I don't really care about printing - I've got a color duplex laser printer for that. I wanted something that would fax, copy, and scan with an auto-feed.

Here's what it's good at:
1. Scanning letter-size pages (although their Mac software could use some work).
2. Copying letter-size pages.
3. Faxing letter-size pages to U.S. recipients.
And the document feed works great.

Here's what it won't do:
1. Scan legal-sized pages
2. Ring or make any kind of noise when it gets an ... Read More

I purchased the Epson Stylus Photo 1400 Printer directly from the Epson online store. [...]

No sample paper comes packaged with the printer so I immeadiately went to the store to get a healthy supply of Epson papers. I picked up various sizes and weights as well as printable blank DVD's. I made sure I also picked up the large 13x19 sheets so I could see my images in all their glory!

The first thing that struck me was the shear size of this printer. It's large. Unpacking it was a breeze since the inner bag that is wrapped around the printer has handles on it for easy printer extraction. There are two vacuum packed bags in the carton and each contain three ink cartridges. Six cartridges are needed for this printer. Expect to pay upwards [..] to replace all six of them! There ... After smashing(literally) my Lexmark X7170 from frustration, I needed a new printer. I wanted an all-in-one, but mainly just wanted a good quality photo printer. I got this for $120 on sale, which is a good deal, but I wouldn't pay more than that for this printer. It's very lightweight, with a simple, stylish design. It takes up very little desktop space compared to most all-in-ones. It's very easy to install and set-up. Be aware that when I bought it, it did not come with a usb cable. I used my old one, no biggie. Additionally, it only comes with a "sample pack" of paper: a few sheets of type paper, and a few sheets of 4x6 photo paper, that's it. I started w/the 4x6. The paper pickup on my Lexmark kept failing to work properly, picking up multiple sheets/jamming/etc, which is why I smashed it. The pickup ... Read More

After 4 hours of trying to install the print driver, PLUS two calls to tech support (one of which lasted over an hour and one where I was on hold for 30 minutes and then disconnected)and an abortive tech support chat session, I am sending this printer back.

I am running Vista and for some reason the installation fails 3/4 of the way through. I literally tried a dozen times--from the CD, downloading two different versions from the site. When tech support told me to uninstall, restart and try again for the 5th time, I popped my gasket.

I owned this MFP for about 4 weeks before it completely died. For about 2-3 weeks before it died I often noticed that it was unresponsive after having been idle for a day or so. The display would show the wrong date and time and none of the buttons could wake the machine up. My only choice was to cycle the power. I found this to be pretty aggravating since reaching the power button on the back left side was challenging, considering the printer was in tight space on a shelving unit - plus the unit is pretty tall to reach over the top. Anyhow, it finally decided not to come on anymore after the last time it froze up. Please keep in mind that the printer only froze up for me while it was "hibernating."

As far as when it did work, the print quality was very good and the speed was excellent. I actually liked the printer ... Read More

This is the first time I have purchased a "BROTHER" product. I needed a printer/scanner for my VISTA system. VISTA realy limited me from my choices due to not many on the market yet so I was extremely hesitant about purchasing this item. I usualy buy Sony or Panasonic.
It arrived sooner than I had expected. Instructions were easy to follow. It is wireless and I set it up for this but it did not respond. I called customer service and the gentleman was EXTREMELY kind and patient. He walked me through step-by-step and would not exit our conversation until he heard the machine working properly.
My family and I have put it to use DAILY! I LOVE my scanned photos. It prints GREAT. COLOR is GREAT. FAXES great. I love the "black" print button-no need to set it on properties! The phone works GREAT. The price was GREAT! ... Read More

If you are looking for a basic all in one printer, this is the right one. It has excellent print quality, good scanning quality. It would have been good to have a SD card slot, but i don't mind as much as i can use my PC slots. Print speed is good. This is the right piece for your home and its economical. I had a lexmark before, this one is way much much better.

This product is the newer version of the MFC 4150. I have both a new iMAC and a PC running Vista. I was able to have this multifunction printer do everything except PRINT! I could scan, copy and fax with my my computer but something was wrong with the printer drivers for either computer. I called tech support and went through their hoops with no success. The drivers did not fix the problem. My suspicion is that this new release printer has a bug in its driver. Either way I returned the product and got a full refund. I ended up ordering the former model the 4150 which has a better track record (as evident from the numerous reviews). For some odd reason the 4150 is also 10 dollars more expensive. There must a reason for that right?

PS: It was the tech support for Canon that recommended I return the printer. They stated they were ... Read More

I was looking to create a home-grown electronic document management system for my personal papers, which are piling up faster than I can cram them into my overstuffed filing cabinet. My goal was to put together a duplex document scanner, a super-large hard drive for my PC, and a great shredder. I would scan the papers needing filing, their images would be automatically saved onto the hard drive, then I would shred the originals.

The Fellowes 3227901 shredder and the Cavalry 1TB USB/eSATA Hard Drive fit the bill perfectly, and I gave both high ratings. The Brother MFC-8860DN was another story. Although I have very happily owned Brother products in the past---in fact, I was replacing an older Brother MFD and a Brother laser printer---this device fell far below my expectations.

It claims to scan at 300x300, 600x600, and ... Read More
