I was very happy with the first one of these I bought. I used it with a Windows XP desktop PC that uses a wireless USB card,and it worked perfectly for me, both scanning and printing. Then I bought a second one for use at my girlfriend's house to use with her WinXP laptop. It works perfectly as far as printing, but it will not scan. Instead of scanning it gives the error message, "Cannot load application list". Oddly, it scanned the first time I tried scanning but never again. I didn't know about the scanning problem and went ahead and bought two more of these printers for two relatives who had Vista laptops. The printer is not printing to either of those Vista laptops, even though Vista printed okay for the first week or so. I think this is more an indictment of Vista than of the printers. ... Read More

I've had nothing but trouble with HP printers. The Canon MX310 is such a wonderful change to a truly quality printer-scanner-fax, and for half the price! The software installed without a hitch in Windows XP and all functions work great. The manual is somewhat vague and it took some small amount of fiddling to operate the fax and scan modes, but in the end, not enough to remove a whole star, as it's really pretty simple to use. It also looks good, with a sleek design. I love it! Keep it up, Canon!

I purchased this item through a "special deal" very cheap. I've read several of the comments about the machine, but there's one thing that I don't see explained, and I wish I had known about it before I had made my purchase. This is indeed a "plain paper" fax machine. But it does NOT use "toner" or an "ink cartridge". It uses a "ribbon". What they call the "ribbon" is actually a looooong sheet (spool) of carbon paper (or something like it) on a roll. The number of pages you receive equals the length of "carbon paper" which will be used, no matter if the entire page is filled with print, or only two lines. At first I was a little reluctant in buying this machine as it had the same document feeder like the one I had been using and it gave me nothing but problems, but I went by the Brother reputation for fax machines. I haven't had one problem with this machine and feel it has been a great investment.

This 5500 series printer started out a dream and became a nightmare 4 months after having purchased it. Started getting messages that the printer was jammed.Kept calling customer service to problem solve.That department is outsourced making a bad situation worse.Some customer service folks were helpful,but many were rude and clueless.Spent hours on the phone troubleshooting. It's now 8 mos later,I am throwing the printer away.It frequently stops picking up the paper, the roller grinds and the duplex option stopped working. This printer uses color ink whenever you print in B&W. This sucks up your ink and makes the quality not as good as it could be. Supposedly this only happens in duplex mode, but that is why I bought this printer. Then if any color cartridge is empty, you cannot print at all. This is just a scam to get you to buy more ink because once empty you cannot refill the ink. Do not buy as this is a horrible scam.

I bought this to replace several separate components that were not aging well, and 11" x 17" print & scan capability plus the built-in Wireless were the main selling points. Connecting to my network was a little problematic. To connect, I had to change my office network's encryption, as I was using a WEP encryption of HEX codes that don't translate to alpha characters, but this printer will not allow anything but alpha. Anyway, once that was done, the unit worked beautifully, and actually has so many features in the software that I haven't had the time to explore them all.

I received this printer for free when I bought a computer a few hours ago today (today's Black Friday). I didn't know much about the printer--I've never had an Epson before--but the printer looked nice so I thought nothing of it. Now I understand why the store was trying to get rid of these. I came home and took the printer out of the box. Everything looked alright. I proceeded to turn on the printer--the printer instructed me to put in the ink cartridges. After I put in the ink, I thought the printer would be ready to go. WRONG! The message screen said, "PAPER JAM" and I couldn't do anything except for turn the printer off and then back on again.
