I previously used the Canon i250 until the color ink stopped working. I thought the i4600 would be a better more efficient machinge. Wrong. Wrong. Wrong. I frequently change from regular paper to photo paper and the procedure on the i4600 is cumbersome. Once it finally prints, the result is nice, but then, so was the i250. Canon has goofed on this product, and I can't recommend it.

I think this is an excellent value--it won't do color printing, but I'm sick of getting ripped off for ink cartridges: I'm willing to settle for grayscale. The scanner is quite slow, but if you make sure to check the box "Display the Scanner Driver," you'll find pretty competent scanning functionality. The warm-up time is amazingly fast, and the copy functions are solid. I haven't tried the fax functions.

The printer itself is fairly quick, silent, and trustworthy. I did not install the HP software and ran off just the drivers wirelessly on Vista x64. There's this sticky stuff on the top of the printer which can't be removed by just water. I gave 75% rubbing alcohol, 25% water a shot (doesn't leave streaks) and came off like magic. Used a cloth to pick up the adhesive while still wet and applied the solution again to make sure everything's off. Sexy thing!

Done with inkjets. So happy to have a good laser again. Chose Brother because price and quality now better than HP. It's quiet and gets used all day, everyday. Never jams, even the top and bottom paper feeders which was a huge problem with HP products. Reliable WiFi. Simple set up. Reliable faxes. Compact desktop size, but sturdy.

I like the printer, and I would recommend it. My only real complaint is the total cost of ownership is high. Order a set of ink at $60 when you order the printer, because within a couple weeks of starting it up, you'll need to replace them. Pros: 1. Instructions were great for wireless install. 2. Prints quality is good. 3. Machine looks great. 4. The printer has never failed to print. Cons: 1. 6 individual ink cartridges at $10 each, or $15 each for high capacity. 2. The printer's initial startup uses about 1/2 of the ink that ships with the printer. This is explained in the manual. 3. I bought this printer for its networking capabilities. However I found that configuring this printer for my home network to be a nightmare. After I wasted many hours on the project I just gave up and hooked it up via USB. At least that way it works on ONE of my computers.

system was working fine uuntil we installed SP3 for XP Pro. Then lost iner-compatibility between scan, fax, copy and print. HP tech support seemed clueless and we spent several days (and more than what several replacement units would cost)and system is still not corrected. HP is "working on it" although they have fixed problem for those using Vista operating systems. We want anoperating Solution Center component back!!! Or maybe we should return unit to HP for one that will work as advertised???
