PC Hardware : Blackberry Trackball / Joystick / Navigate / Pearl / Ring Repair Replacement Fix Fixing for Rim Blackberry Pearl 8100 8130 Curve 8300 8310 8320 8800 8820 8830

My journey to fixing my Blackberry 8100 trackball started with looking online for repair services. The first I found charged around $70, so I went to the T-Mobile store to see if they could assist. They directed me to Customer Care phone support, and after being on hold for about 15 minutes, the answer was, "It's not under warrantee, you don't have insurance, sorry." I then started looking again for online fixes. This part sells at a range between $5 and $50, installation not included. I was pleased that I was able to get such a small part, at such a great price, from this seller. Without any resources or "how to" I found that this was an easy fix, just dropping the trackball into the hole, and gently clicking the silver ring cover (the side w/o prongs towards the LCD), and voila, good ... I ordered this as a replacement for the original keyboard that came with my Mac G5. My old keyboard was full of dust and crumbs that I couldn't clean out no matter how I tried. I actually returned this item and ordered a keyboard from a different manufacturer. It is too hard to feel the keys under my fingers on the Apple keyboard. I'm not a super fast typist, so perhaps that is part of the problem, but the keys are so close to the foundation of the board that it was not comfortable to me. It looks great though!

I chose the G11 over the G15 because I didn't like the thought of having to give up my spinning volume wheel from the old Logitech Elite. Sadly, the volume wheel on the G11 is much worse than on the Elite. It has barely any tactile feedback, which would normally not be a problem, except that it is completely smooth save for a tiny bump you can barely feel. I had to adjust to pressing down harder on it to get it to even turn.

I ran into a small snag with the media keys and controlling iTunes. By default, they would only control iTunes if it had focus (this may be iTune's fault). I had to get a plugin to fix this (get mmkeys.dll and use it as a plugin).

The only other quibbles I have with the keyboard have been mentioned a bunch of times already: it takes getting used to coming ... Read More

I bought this little unit about six months ago for use with my laptop while traveling. I got tired of screwing with the tangle-prone cord on the mini mouse I had been using.

The unit is small and weighted perfectly when the battery is in it. It's precise enough for what I want to do on the road: web surfing, e-mail and light gaming. Notice I said light gaming. Using this for something like battling in WoW would result in some pitiful showings. The precision of the laser just isn't there. But again, serious gaming isn't what this mouse is about. And yes, Linux users, it works just fine with your favorite distro.

The only knock-down on the mouse is the battery life. The ad says up to 1 year of use. Yeah, not so much. I get about 45 days straight use out of a battery, rechargeable ... Read More

This mouse would be absolutely perfect if it weren't for a few imperfections.

First of all, having a curve where your wrist would rest isn't a good idea, and needs a cushion of some sort to be comfortable.

Also, my mouse isn't entirely smooth in movement. By that, I mean I can feel the friction from the three underlying tabs.

It would help to have some sort of scroll bar too.

All in all, this mouse has imperfections, but the enjoyment of using it surpasses the minor annoyances that are sometimes encountered.

Nice designed mouse. The cord is a little short if you want to hook it to USB port on the left of your laptop then you may want to choose another mouse. But otherwise, installation is easy, and fast; the mouse work well and definitely worth the price (which can't be cheaper than this). Good deal indeed.

It could be a pretty nice keyboard except the markings on the keys are too faint, which eventually strains the eyes, and the little pop out legs on the bottom of the keyboard are cheap and broke off, so the keyboard lies flat on the desk. The mouse is pretty nice, and now I am using the MX3200 mouse with an older Logitech wireless keyboard.

I love this keyboard! For the price, you cannot beat it. Here's my take:

Pros:
1. Quiet keys. Not the clickety-clickety-clickety of other keyboards. These are pretty nice and quiet.

2. Soft keystrokes, yet not mushy.

3. USB! (My other KBs were PS/2...)

4. Volume controls! I love having these. It's why I took this one over the standard keyboard.

5. Solid construction. I'm not concerned about durability at all.

Cons:
None that I can think of.

Great keyboard. No useless macro keys. Durable. People complain about the lighting being dimmer in the middle. While true, it's not that bad.
