This KVM is made of metal and feels solid and well-built. It comes with an AC power adapter, but it works fine for me without the adapter. Overall I give this product thumbs-up, it has been working fine with no glitches or odd behavior at all. To switch between computers you have to press the button on the unit, there is no keyboard shortcut that will toggle between computers, a feature that some other KVM's have. Comes with a pair of bonded KVM cables which are kind of stiff and heavy, as cables go. A VGA-male to VGA-female cable is bonded to a USB-A to USB-B cable. Another plus is that this KVM is covered by a 3-year warranty direct thru Startech.

I use KVM switches at work and at home and this be far has been the best one. Very easy to set up and use. Worked right out of the box. I use it on two XP boxes and found both and runs great. Cables where the right length. I have only used the switch on the box to move between the two PC and work great. Very little lag time between moving from one PC to the other. I got this to replace a Belkin flip KVM that showed promise but failed after about a week. It was easy to hook up and in a matter of minutes, both of my macs were up and running and with no problems. For the price, it's a great addition seeing as how I use both my G4 and G5 for different applications and most of my drive space on my G4 is for server use. I recommend this to anyone who needs a good but inexpensive KVM switch for their computers. Others seem to have issues with lag time when switching between machines, but I have no problem with that, the switch is almost immediate.

I had a iogear 4 port kvm switch, but had to upgrade to this 8 port. Worked great right out of the box. I have 3 windows desktops, 1 laptop and 2 Sun Solaris workstations. I had previously purchased a PS/2 to Sun converter box to make the Sun systems work. It's true about the power light, very bright... put a piece of electric tape over it and it's not as bad now.

All the extra mouse and keyboard buttons work with this KVM on all three computers.

The picture is the 4 port version, but this is the 2 port version. Works like a charm with my desktop and laptop. No problems switching, with gaming resolution, etc. This does NOT come with cables, and be careful which cables you do get, there's 2 DVI types.
