The Belkin FLDF102U Flip lives up to what is advertised. It is easy to install and works perfectly for my needs. I have two computers on my desk and need to work with both machines with only one monitor and keyboard. My only complaint is that when you "flip" to the other computer, it is a little slow to give control to the other machine.

The product works pretty well, but it is not quite the whiz described by David Pogue. Setup was easy. The software is in the product. I use it to display the laptop on the large desktop monitor, but the laptop does not display full screen on the monitor. Since I do my email on the laptop, I can also do it on the desktop, but there is a tiny image delay that makes typing email using the desktop monitor and keyboard a bit awkward. I can cut and paste from the laptop (remote) to the desktop (local), but not from desktop to the laptop. There is a USB port in the device that allows a printer connection, but that just provides another USB port for the desktop because it can't be used to print from the laptop. I shopped for quite a while (as in months) before purchasing this gem. Before this, I purchased--and then returned--2 of the Belkin products. I use this beauty with XP and Vista, and it works perfectly. It probably helps that there is no hot-key support, so there is no software to install. Some people don't like this, but I prefer it: the software written for other KVMs I've used has always been poorly written (i.e. buggy); also, I'm a hot-key person, so the most common combinations are already taken on my machines by software I use to actually do my job. As this product states, it works with most KVM systems and I did not find a single issue with this product other than I still kept having problems with my wireless Elite keyboard/mouse setup. If you are using this with a standard wired keyboard/mouse setup it should work fine and it may even work with other wireless keyboard/mouse setups but as for the Microsoft Elite setup I kept having issues. The lengths for the cables are just right and will extend well. The only thing I did notice which was a bit strange is that all of the cables were separate and were not conjoined and molded into one single cable with the heads being split at the end like other KVM cables. These cables are, well, cables. There's not a lot else to say about that part. They work fine. The three stars are for that part. The missing extra two stars are for my gripe: the audio cables are just a little shorter than the DVI part. Since the DVI part is the thicker, stiffer portion of the cable, using this cable in cramped quarters can cause the audio plugs to pop out of the jacks. Minor irritation, but a oversight that could have been easily avoided. The audio plug was the one that gave me the most trouble; I solved the problem by purchasing a 3" extender cable from Radio Shack.

The housing is metal and it has built in supression that requires a user supplied ground connection. Both are attractive because I use these in high power radio frequency environments where interference and lightning are regular issues. I have lost one set to lightning at one of my worse locations despite a good master ground. What I can say is that it did not blow up as badly as other units. From there it works well and responds well with both local and remote KVM hardware attached. I can recommend it. 4-stars because despite the grounding system, lightning can get it.

This is a really good product. I have three computers and I don't have any problems with it. The only thing that they did not mention in the manual is that, when clicking the ctrl, alt, shift buttons, make sure that you click it at a fast pace about a second apart. Because when I did it, it was at a slow pace and it wasn't working. But overall it is a great product to have when using more than one computer.

I ordered this cable before reading the customer reviews. As stated in the other review, this is a DVI-I cable which is NOT compatible with a DVI-D outlet. Since almost all flat pannel monitors and computers use the DVI-D format, this cable will not work with most monitors and computers. A DVI-D cable will, however, work with both DVI-D and DVI-I outlets. So why didn't they make this a DVI-D cable?

The box looks and feels substantial. It took me a few minutes to learn the button-pushing routine for switching computers, but it works fine. There was a problem with the video once, but a restart of the machine solved it. The most important feature for me is the ability to switch between OS9 and OSX.
