The device doesn't work with my tablet -- it feeds bad screen dimensions and produces incorrect absolute positioning. It's unusable. I don't care for the oddball cables either -- if you are hooking up keyboard, mouse, video, audio, and microphone, it saves space. But if any of your machines need only a subset of these, the hydra cables are a mess (unless you take a scissors to them and cut off the unneeded parts, but then you're in trouble in the future, as this KVM won't work with conventional cables, so you'll have to buy new ones from IOGEAR if you ever need to expand in the future.

The construction is solid. I am impressed with the buttons which have good tactile as well as audio and visual feedback. However the internal electronics is not as good. Randomly but frequently, when I switch computers the screen will come up properly for several seconds and then go blank for several seconds before coming back. Thereafter it is solid. The keyboard, sound and mouse all work without a hitch. However it is hard to use them when the screen is a blank.

This switch is great. I'm using it for one system running Vista and another running XP. When one system is powered down, it automatically switches to the other system... or you can simply push the button to switch between systems anytime.

Our company purchased this item to switch between two G4 Power Macs and two older PC's. The Macs work perfectly--flawlessly--with this switch. Switching is almost instantaneous and we've not seen an error yet. However, the older PC's (running Windows 98) are a little squirrely in that they do find the USB keyboard and mouse, but when they are switched off for another computer for a while they lose track of the KVM switch, thus can't be accessed, and we have to hard restart them. I think this has more to do with the age of these PC's and their OS. If we had newer PC's running XP I think they would behave better. I have been using this Linksys KVM switch for about 4 years now. It has outlasted one HP computer and functions well switching my home office equipment between my work laptop (HP) and my personal laptop (Sony) and is attached to ports on two docking stations. I use a Logitech wireless keyboard and mouse and a 22 inch LED monitor. All functions work well and it switches easily and consistently with a double keystroke (scroll lock). If you're using a newer port replicator/docking station or computer without PS2 ports, you'll need USB adaptors for this item or if your keyboard and mouse are USB, this isn't the switch for you (unless you buy or have adaptors which are very cheap). There are similar KVM switches that are designed to work with USB, so this is likely the better bet in this instance.

I recently got my old computer back up and running and wanted to set up a kvm for both of my machines. I got this one after a bad experience with the trendnet 2-port kvm-- it was completely dead. Nary an indicator light even shone. So I was pleasantly surprised to find this one working nicely. The hot-key instructions provided aren't very good, but after some experimentation I found that if you click scroll lock until it beeps, you then have to click scroll-lock + up or down arrow simultaneously for it to switch. Switching is rapid. There are very light, barely noticeable horizontal bars on the monitor when both computers are running; but, I am using these machines for recording music, so I only care about sound anyway. This KVM works as it's needed, and it was nice that all the necessary cables were included. It's not very sophisticated, but it doesn't need to be. The one issue I've had, which I blame on Windows rather than on the KVM, is one machine that reliably comes up with the video out of sync after being switched out. It never happens right away, and the machine is used remotely, which may mess with the video settings. Anyway, the other two machines connected to the switch work well, which is why I don't blame this on the switch. All in all, a good value for the money.
