I have had this processor running for a year now; it is a G0 (lucky me) and I ran it for 10 months at stock speeds. Those 10 months were heaven (not mentioning a problem with the motherboard here) and so I decided to overclock. I never overclocked a computer in the past, this was going to be my first.

Before starting, note that I used the stock cooler, and the processor's VID is 1.3250V.

Now, because it is important to others, I must say I run this processor on a Asus P5E. Great board EXCEPT the memory voltages are bogus... or better stated, augmented. An increase of 0.02V in the BIOS is actually 0.05V, and the base of 1.8V is the only one that is correct. Therefore, 1.82V in BIOS is 1.85V, 1.84V is 1.90V, 1.90 is really 2.05V, etc.

Pretty good processor, definately uses less power than Pentium 4 Prescotts, but seems to be a bit more finniky when overclocking than people mention online.

I replaced a built-in (on motherboard) Ethernet 10/100 network connection with this Intel Pro/1000 (gigabyte) network adapter with no problems. The speed seems much better and the install procedure was easy. New updates are available via Microsoft Windows Update procedure.. I even bought 3 more of these adapters to replace the network adapters in my other computers...

Runs alot cooler than my the 6600 it replaced. Idles in upper 20C range and maxes out around 50C with all 4 cores at 100% load using stock heatsink and fan. Old 6600 idles in upper 40's and went all the way up to 60+ under full load. Intel needs to get rid of hard to install pushpin design for heatsink and fan. Very difficult to install correctly and you might bend/crack motherboard in process! So that's why I"m taking off a star mainly for that. Otherwise, a decent cpu all around but probably overkill for most users since most software today still isn't written for multiple cores so most of the time the extra cores go unused. Also some programs get confused by the extra cores. Didn't really help much compared to my old 6600 in Flight Simulator X main reason I upgraded. It really shines when ... Read More

What can I say, it's a processor rated at a certain speed...and works as described.

Could probably crank it to 4 GHz as others have done. But at this speed, I have no gripes. It shreds everything I throw at it.

Got it running at 30c idle with a Zalman. It may hit 36c every now and then but drops back to 30c like nothing.

Do your self a favor and get a quality aftermarket fan and some Artic Silver.

I upgraded to the i7 from an Intel Core 2 Duo E8400. The main reasons I made the upgrade were:

1. Low power consumption (significantly lower than a Q6600 which is about $100 cheaper than the i7)
2. 8 logical cores available (quad core + hyper threading)
3. The ability to play cutting edge games that take advantage of all 8 cores.
4. The potential ability to load share between CPU & GPU once Windows 7 is released.

The upgrade might have been a bit premature, as the primary reason to buy an I7 processor won't be possible until Windows 7 is released. Windows 7 will allow load sharing between GPU (graphics card) and CPU. This will enable some really nice performance gains in games, or other graphic intensive applications like video editing software. ... Read More

I upgraded to this processor from a Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 3.0 GHz 6M L2 Cache 1333MHz FSB LGA775 Dual-Core Processor. This processor is an amazing upgrade. I recommend the RAM for this processor Corsair TR3X6G1333C9 XMS3 6 GB 3 x 2 GB PC3-10666 1333MHz 240-Pin DDR3 Core i7 Memory Kit. This is one serious processor, the cost in my opinion is totally worth it. Just like all black box Intel processors this one is for serious gaming/ video editing. There are several Intel Core i7 processors out there that are more moderate and significantly less costly. You will see amazing boot times and access times that are really short. Games have no stutters or any significant lag.

I got a 3D Mark Vantage score of around 19,000 amazing!

This board is awesome, I am running Vista 64-bit, with 8G RAM, and 2 1T drive, the board can handle up to 6T I believe. All Sata, has IDE if you need that for your CDROM. All has VMWARE accellartor which you can turn on in the BIOS. If your machine boots slow, you need to know how to upgrad the BIOS. Mine is a MEDIA MACHINE< which records shows 24x7. It is also a Video Encoding machine, running 64bit, QUAD-CORE. It has optical output, 6 UBS, and 2 FIREWIRE. It also has External SATA link, and Network built on. I run an NVIDIO 500M card, the graphics are incredible, This is my DVD which I record shows, and encode them, burn to DVD with added Huadgepauge card. No more spending 10$ a month for Tivo or such. Intel board and chip is a great combo, if you need help you don't need to contact DELL in india. ... Read More

Paired with a Gigabyte EP35-DS3L motherboard and OCZ RAM.
Very fast, very reliable, and very cool. In the same case, same cooler (had to change retention mechanism obviously) same room, etc., it's around 6ºC cooler than the AMD X2 processor it replaced on idle, and 10ºC cooler on load. Not to mention a lot faster. The difference is bigger than what I would've expected.
