I decided to solve the problem "network setting have been changed by another program", received after I installed a recent Mac security update, with an upgrade from Tiger to Leopard. I had exhausted the possibilities offered by the Mac Fix It forum, and I had not been able to access the internet for a long time. Apple, it seems, has not offered a fix.

Leopard installed easily, and I did a custom install, choosing to not install printer drivers, non-English languages, and a Unix module, saving myself 5 or so gigs of space. The dial up internet is now working great, and surfing on the Web is much faster than with Windows XP, with many less problems. I also installed the recent 10.5.5 update.

This MacBook is a great upgrade all things considered. I am a longtime Mac user and have used them for everything from graphic design work to simple college papers. I recently upgraded to this Mac from an Ibook G4. If you are intending to use this Mac for heavy graphic design and professional video editing then it may not be for you. I would like to refute a few of the bad reviews people have given.

1.) There is no firewire - This is apparent by simply looking at the laptop and thus if you use firewire often then don't buy it, this will save some time returning it. Many average users do not need firewire and transferring files from an old Mac is still very easy with this new MacBook.

2.) Some have said the screen has a bluish tint or washed out look - I have ... Read More

It works OK and has the nice Airtunes feature (allows you to stream audio from your Mac gadget to the router which has an headphones jack) which however only works with iTunes. Also the setup utility is a bit cumbersome. Definitely prefer a web based interface. The USB only supports a printer so no HDD can be hooked up. There's a number of better and cheaper routers out there but they ain't Apple ;)

I had this mouse for a while a few years ago. Perhaps it has been redesigned since then, but at the time, I felt that the weight of the mouse was heavy, due to the batteries you have to stuff in there. It required extra effort to push it around my mouse pad. I didn't notice it as first, but after a few days, my hand felt fatigued. Also, sometimes it got knocked off the desktop and when it fell, it fell hard because of the weight. After a while it didn't work anymore and I was more than happy to go out and get a mouse that wasn't filled with batteries. Now I have the (overpriced) Mighty Mouse that has a cord, and it works fine, but the cord is about a foot too short for the giant G5 tower that I have. At those prices, why can't they get it right?

The new macbook pro is my first mac and I have to say I am enjoying it. I got the machine because I love OS X. The machine is plenty fast and the display is great. If you do any kind of development this is the machine to get.

As a long-time Mac user, the one Apple product I have stayed away from is .mac and its successor MobileMe. Why? Because if you want email only, there are better and cheaper alternatives (try Gmail). However, I recently ran into need for two killer features that made this service worthwhile: seamlessly publishing my calendar for colleagues to see and iDisk file sharing. Now there are alternatives to accomplish both of these things on the Net, but they require some geekiness. With MobileMe, I simply said publish my calendar and there it was. Same simplicity for file sharing. Is it worth $x (retail price is $99, but I paid under $50)? It was for me. Four stars for functionality and integration into the Mac OS. Lose a star for high-price...

My husband and I have been devoted Mac users for years and have owned at least 8 Apple computers and several Apple peripherals. Quite frankly I didn't think we would be writing any adverse review for any Apple product. But here I am doing just that and simply stated I would recommend that any of you considering this MacBook and who also rely heavily on wireless connectivity for your laptop to delay your purchase indefinitely until Apple has resolved an inherent wireless connectivity problem with OS 10.5.5.

I use this MacBook as my kitchen work station and rely completely on our wireless LAN (Apple Airport) as I have no ethernet port in the kitchen area of our house. I am now experiencing numerous drop outs of both my internet connection and my LAN and this started after upgrading to Apple's OS 10.5.5 ... Read More

Keynote is so much more intuitive and polished than Powerpoint that I would gladly pay twice the price for Keynote alone. I also like Pages very much for its elegant and simple approach, though it doesn't beat Word by nearly as much as Keynote beats Powerpoint. Numbers still needs some work, but is already very promising (I still use Excel for more complex tasks.

My one big gripe is the lack of an auto-save function. These applications do crash (though Keynote never crashed on me during a presentation) and I have lost many hours of work because I didn't save often enough. So: Make sure to save often!

I ordered this as a replacement for the original keyboard that came with my Mac G5. My old keyboard was full of dust and crumbs that I couldn't clean out no matter how I tried. I actually returned this item and ordered a keyboard from a different manufacturer. It is too hard to feel the keys under my fingers on the Apple keyboard. I'm not a super fast typist, so perhaps that is part of the problem, but the keys are so close to the foundation of the board that it was not comfortable to me. It looks great though!

I like this wireless router so much I still use it over the wireless router/modem the phone company gave me. The WiFi n-draft is the main reason I'm using it, in close second is the handy USB port for plugging external HD or printers.

I only wish it had more USB ports. Yet the elegant design makes up for the lack of USB ports. Also it is simple to operate and set up. I run a Mac Book Pro, Dell PC, Nintendo Wii without connection issues.
