PC Hardware : Blackberry Trackball / Joystick / Navigate / Pearl / Ring Repair Replacement Fix Fixing for Rim Blackberry Pearl 8100 8130 Curve 8300 8310 8320 8800 8820 8830

My journey to fixing my Blackberry 8100 trackball started with looking online for repair services. The first I found charged around $70, so I went to the T-Mobile store to see if they could assist. They directed me to Customer Care phone support, and after being on hold for about 15 minutes, the answer was, "It's not under warrantee, you don't have insurance, sorry." I then started looking again for online fixes. This part sells at a range between $5 and $50, installation not included. I was pleased that I was able to get such a small part, at such a great price, from this seller. Without any resources or "how to" I found that this was an easy fix, just dropping the trackball into the hole, and gently clicking the silver ring cover (the side w/o prongs towards the LCD), and voila, good ... My wrist absolutely loves me for switching from a traditional mouse to a Logitech Trackman. I switched almost a decade ago to reduce wrist strain; it did the job. I just ordered from Amazon my 7th Trackman.

Each one of my previously owned Trackballs had the same fate...the button stopped working. I feel that with a better quality button or a different buttn design, the device(s) would last much, much longer.

This mouse would be absolutely perfect if it weren't for a few imperfections.

First of all, having a curve where your wrist would rest isn't a good idea, and needs a cushion of some sort to be comfortable.

Also, my mouse isn't entirely smooth in movement. By that, I mean I can feel the friction from the three underlying tabs.

It would help to have some sort of scroll bar too.

All in all, this mouse has imperfections, but the enjoyment of using it surpasses the minor annoyances that are sometimes encountered.

I work at a computer all day and my arm started to stiffen up from reaching to the same position all day, so I decided to get a cordless mouse that I could set anywhere and not have to move as much. Loved it so much I bought one for home! I love being able to put it on top of the desk, on top of the stacks of papers in front of me, all the way to my right, on my keyboard tray or hold it in my lap when my arm gets really tired. It goes a LONG way to prevent pain. The other reviewers are correct in that this is best for desktop computers, and I wouldn't recommend it for laptops based on the receiver cord.

I have owned one now for 6 months, and I can say without a doubt that this is the ultimate trackball and maybe the ultimate hand-input device for a computer besides the keyboard. If they were a little less expensive I would buy a few more for work and other computers I have, but if the one I had broke, I would replace it in a second. If you are an experienced computer user and you want a great trackball or mouse alternative, this gets my vote for the best option if money is no object. Anything cheaper will have some drawback or another, this doesn't have any drawbacks other than the higher initial price.

Had an old Kensington Serial ball mouse (yeah im old). well MOBO's really dont come with serial ports anymore, and this old friend just was working anymore. It was the one with the cue-ball, large and awsome. Well here comes the predessor.. and I got to say, 3 years going with the child and its simple and easy to use... if your 40 something and want the past back, go for this pup.

As a mouse, the SlimBlade Trackball works great. It matched to my laptop immediately, sensitivity is able to be adjusted to my liking.

As a trackball it has a lot to be desired. I find it is too sensitive to be precise. It is also hard to scroll down a page if you have it in trackball mode.

It is fairly simple to switch from Mouse to Trackball mode, but the light that tells what mode you are in does not exist.

For carrying around while I work I will use it as a mouse because I like not having the wires. But at home, when I am just using the computer for pleasure I will continue to use my wired Logitech Trackman Wheel which can't be beat...until they make it bluetooth!

I would recommend this thing, for the price, you get what you pay if you want some kind of better built stuff but at a expensive price, look somewhere else. All in all this thing works well, a little bit noisy keys and cheapy construction but not a major issue.

I've owned one of these for years and recently bought another one (to use with a laptop). While the "shuttle" part of the unit is definitely useful, to me the best aspect of these is the ability to assign functionality to any of the 15 keys on the unit.

There's hardly a program out there that won't benefit from the assignment of hot keys. Often a program will have hotkeys that require you to use your right hand and thus you need to take your hand off the mouse (assuming you're right-handed -- reverse this for you lefties). With the Shuttle Pro you can move all hot keys so that your left hand can stay on the Pro and your right hand can stay on the mouse. This alone can make you so much more productive it's incredible.

I use it for animation (2D as well as 3D) and am able ... Read More
