Hello,This unit is the first of it's kind for me. Looks kinda sinister and has some weight to it. Three cables were included.One was power that had the round serial connector that fit nice and tight in the units plug. One e-sata cable w/slot plug for the back of the tower,nice touch. One USB cable. Everything fit and is secure in the unit.I don't have a clue to the quality of the units chip set. For the money it's a good buy. That being said the unit has to be controlled manually e.g. reach to it's backside to the power switch. In my book that's a deal killer. Still you'll be glad to reach for the switch. I bought this enclosure so I could clone my hard drive on my laptop to the 250gb WD 2.5 inch sata hard drive I bought. This enclosure is good for such things and now it holds my old hard drive which I use as a backup. Sometimes the enclosure wont work, I would have to unplug it and plug it in back onto my laptop until the hard drive was picked up. other than that its an ok product, transfer speeds aren't that bad and this is a good item so it can store your hard drive as a back-up and I wouldn't recommend traveling around with it since it doesn't look very road durable.

Hello, I have had the Drobo now for a few months and it works flawlessly. No problems at all. Some comments on other reviews: 1. I do not understand why people are surprised that with i.e a 4TB format you only have 2.7 TB available date. If one cares to read the product description "before" you buy the unit one would realize that the rest is used for data protection. That is actually the reason why I want to have a Drobo in the first place or??? 2. Many people have a wrong defintion of a backup. If you do not have a file at least 3 times on different storage media you do not have a backup. Some people go even further. This is a great economical drive enclosure for hard drives. Simple to install drives and use (plug and play). I have intermittantly used two of these enclosures for over a month with old IDE hard drives. Although the enclosure has no fan, the sturdy aluminum housing adequately dissipates heat.

I had a friend with a dead laptop with a lot of personal items -- tax files, resumes, irreplaceable photos, etc -- left on it. I ordered this hard drive enclosure, transferred her hard drive into the Sabent, and used it to pull off all her personal data and "sanitize" her hard drive of all personal info so she could send the laptop off for repair. Then I replaced the now-sanitized drive into her laptop. And, since I already had a spare 2.5-inch notebook drive lying around, I now have a nice portable USB hard drive. It's nice to know the alternative is there in the future, too.

This is an inexpensive HDD enclosure so you aren't getting the highest quality available, but it works perfectly and is easy to assemble. I got it for only $7 and it was worth every penny. If you are going to rough up your hard drive you might look for something with a rubberized coating or a single-body design with a screw-in lid. This is a 2-piece top and bottom design that snaps together.

This enclosure is very nice looking. It was a little tricky to get together, but my 500GB drive runs surprising cool. I am happy with the enclosure and might buy another.

i bought this because got asus mini laptop with no cdrom. i was very unsure. the pricewas right for a gamble. well my gamble payed off.this product worked fine with ALL mycomputers..vista, xp and even linux..i had absolutely no problems or issues with this product..all computers found it right away when istalled..it kicks butt..andthe price is right..

First, the good part. It installs easily, and works right away. So, if you want a cheap enclosure for a drive that you want to salvage form that old computer that you are about to throw away - it maybe exactly what you are looking for. Now, for the disappointments. The biggest one is that it intermittently disconnects and reconnects - every 5-10 minutes. Often in the middle of I/O operations. Even during windows backup I hear click (off) and a few seconds later click again (on). Windows backup reports "backup couldn't complete. Write error". Usually, after 10-15GB of writing. For $16 and change, you can't go wrong. I upgraded the hard drive on my laptop and installed the old drive in the Vantec SX hard drive enclosure. Installation was as easy as it gets. I just plugged the enclosed drive into my laptop, partioned and formated it, and I was ready to go. No drivers were necessary. The drive comes with a split cable. The cable is designed so that you can tap into two USB ports to ensure sufficient power is available for the drive. There is not separate power supply, a definite plus in my opinion. One of the plugs has a pass through feature to allow other USB devices to be plugged into the USB port, thereby saving on computer resources.
