It's a comfortable keyboard to use, and the extras like the volume buttons and other shortcut keys are nice, but the workmanship and quality is just lousy. It often misses the 'i' key when I'm typing which is quite annoying. Yesterday my escape key stopped working all night until it magically started working again this morning.

I have also had problems with a recent Microsoft mouse that I bought, which they replaced for free after 6 months when I called them and complained, but the replacement lasted only another 6 months.

I love MS's ergonomic designs for their mice, keyboards, and gaming devices, but they really need to get some quality control if they want to keep their reputation in this market segment.

I got the MX5500 combo as an upgrade from a Microsoft Desktop Elite + separate MX5000 mouse. That custom combo really worked well for me...and now this!

Pros:
The Setpoint software (the latest edition) really shines. The customization with the mouse and/or keyboard has improved. THe kayboard has great features, like the multimedia keys, the LCD, and of course its sylish looks. Some people will disagree, but I think the muffled response of the keys is easy on the ears and the tactile response is very reassuring (no side-to-side wiggle of the keys is noticeable). It's really just personal opinion from one user to another, but I really love the feel of the keys.

The mouse...I don't know if there is any real bad attribute to speak of here. It charges insanely fast, it's stylish, ... Read More

I can't speak to the more advanced features of the keyboard, but the basic typing functions (with the Windows button functioning like the Apple key) works perfectly with no hassle. My PowerBook G4 was easily able to recognize the keyboard after the very simple setup.

I ordered this as a replacement for the original keyboard that came with my Mac G5. My old keyboard was full of dust and crumbs that I couldn't clean out no matter how I tried. I actually returned this item and ordered a keyboard from a different manufacturer. It is too hard to feel the keys under my fingers on the Apple keyboard. I'm not a super fast typist, so perhaps that is part of the problem, but the keys are so close to the foundation of the board that it was not comfortable to me. It looks great though!

I love this keyboard! For the price, you cannot beat it. Here's my take:

Pros:
1. Quiet keys. Not the clickety-clickety-clickety of other keyboards. These are pretty nice and quiet.

2. Soft keystrokes, yet not mushy.

3. USB! (My other KBs were PS/2...)

4. Volume controls! I love having these. It's why I took this one over the standard keyboard.

5. Solid construction. I'm not concerned about durability at all.

Cons:
None that I can think of.

Doesnt matter how good this keyboard is, if the parts start to wear out in less than 2months.... its useless.

My shift button now squeaks bad when I press it, with FPS games. Its getting worse. So much for being a gaming keyboard. My crappy generic keyboard outlasted this by 5 years.

Pros:
-Back light with 3 brightness levels (off, low, high)
-Macro buttons are a nice feature, simplifies several button presses to one
-Can turn the volume down with a dial on the center of the keyboard
-key strokes are quiet

Cons:
-Back light is uneven, some spots are brighter or darker than others
-It's HUGE, very wide, there isn't enough space in my keyboard tray for the keyboard and mouse pad any longer

It could be a pretty nice keyboard except the markings on the keys are too faint, which eventually strains the eyes, and the little pop out legs on the bottom of the keyboard are cheap and broke off, so the keyboard lies flat on the desk. The mouse is pretty nice, and now I am using the MX3200 mouse with an older Logitech wireless keyboard.

Great keyboard. At first I thought this would be too...uh, what's the word...Geeky? Then I got it, and found out that it wasn't. If you turn off the light, it looks pretty clean and modest. The keys feels great to type with too. Best keyboard I ever had.

Note: Not that mind, but the light resets itself every time you turn off your computer. You cannot toggle the light color to whichever you want, it'll turn itself back to blue. And if you don't want the lighting at all, just turn the adjustable nob (or however it's referred as) to left all the way so the light won't show even if you restart it.

First, this keyboard, although small, feels just like a full size keyboard. If your new to Apple products, you will love it. Only three exceptions that I noted, the placement of the arrow keys, if your a die hard computer user, it is nearly or just plain impossible to get use to. Second, the delete key, meaning the delete key that deletes a key to the right of your cursor is missing. So, if you get one, remember that you will need to press FN+delete to delete to the right of your cursor. The keys for expose, spaces, etc, have been mapped over the function keys. I really don't care for the press FN, then hunt for the key.

If your a long-time mac (or Windows switcher) you may have trouble adjusting to the shortcomings that I noted. It is too bad that Apple doesn't make a full size keyboard, in this new metal design, ... Read More
