This is a really nice looking outdoor thermometer, but when I hung it up it didn't show the right temperature--it said it was 110 outside--and it was March in northern Illinois. Thinking it might have been where I hung it--on my aluminum siding in the afternoon sun--I took it down and left it a neutral spot seeing if it would give the right temperature. It didn't--this time it said it was around 85 and it was around 45 outside. It's possible that this one just wasn't calibrated right, so it gave the wrong temperature. But not wanting to have the same problem with a new one I just returned it. I wasn't happy to send it back as it looked great where I wanted to put it, but it wouldn't do me any good if it wouldn't give me the right temperature.

Springfield 5 1/4 inch Dial Thermometer This device has large numbers so it can be read at quite a distance. You can also adjust the setting. For example, if it's actually 70 degrees, but the thermometer reads 65, rotate the spring clip on the rear so the dial reads 70. The problem with ours was that when it was correct at 70, it would read 40 when it was actually 30 degrees outside. If it was adjusted it to read 30 when it was 30, it would then read 60 when it was actually 70 degrees. Being 10 degrees off between 30 and 70 renders this product useless. Unfortunately, I had discarded the packaging it came in, so it couldn't be returned; so, we threw it out.

I was excited about this thermometer when it first arrived. This is exactly what I need, nice and visible through my kitchen window. It is beautiful and ( mostly ) well designed. It had one major issue - this 180.00 dollar thermometer was off by a full 3 degrees. I have a high mechanical skill level, so I completely disassembled the unit and painstakingly moved the actual glass thermometer body to the appropriate place on the numbered strip, a process which took several hours. Very few people would be able to handle this operation. In case you're wondering how I knew it wasn't properly calibrated, I compared it to 3 other good ( small ) thermometers and then sat it in a 50/50 solution of water and ice ( which is exactly 32 degrees ) All my other thermometers appropriately read 32. I would only buy any product from Oregon Scientific if you are not going to care if it works or not because the customer service is non existent.
