I debated if I should spend this amount of money on a silly bird feeder. So after thinking about how much I spend on seed and also how much pleasure we get from watching the variety of birds we have here....I decided it was worth the money. Now to be fair the squirrels aren't starving. I've learned to place the bird feeder a fair distance from the trunk of the tree or they just reach for it and a hand full of seed is twirled to the ground each time. Seems they do just fine with what's landed but by placing it further from their reach the squirrel must 'take a ride' on the spinning wheel. I bought this feeder because the individual perches allow several birds to feed at one time. No cumulative weights. It took two - three weeks for the birds to adjust to it. The cardinals do not seem to like it that much but they will feed from it. The springs in the feeding arms make a tapping noise when the cardinals fly off. This does not happen with the smaller birds. It is fun to watch squirrels, dove, and blue jays drop off the perches when they release. The large tube is great for being away for a day or two.

it is a delight to have this hummingbird feeder attached to the window by my chair. to watch them drink from this feeder, see their long tongues come out and drink the nectar is a thrill. They can rest their wings. My only problem is sharing the veiw with my two cats who also watch in facination. the birds seem to know the window seperates them from each other and continue to eat. I am not sharing well, but, do allow them their dream that they just might be able to catch them. This is in our motor home. I will order a larger one when we get home.

This feeder is truly red squirrel-proof! Most squirrel-proof feeders can keep the grey squirrels from the bird seed, but the red squirrels are the true enemy. This is the first feeder I have owned that can keep the red squirrels away from the seed. I have had it since mid-June, it's now mid-August. The red squirrels try very hard to hang onto the feeder and/or the perches, but they can't do it. They even tried to chew through the top lid but all they did was scratch the coating. On top of this, the birds love it. Grosbeaks, cardinals, finches (gold and purple), titmice, etc, etc, love to sit and eat from it. I would recommend this feeder to anyone with red squirrel problems. It eventually pays for itself because it saves about 50% or more of the birdseed (that used to be consumed by red squirrels).

FINALLY!!! I have been feeding beautiful Goldfinches here in Iowa for many years. I can't even begin to tell you how many feeders I have gone through...even a few from our local bird supply store. We live up on a hill and when the wind would blow, all of the niger seed would blow away. I just wanted a good feeder that wouldn't crack or break off. I had never heard of Droll Yankee until I researched the reviews on Amazon. Droll Yankee consistantly got rave reviews. So, I tried the TH3 16-inch feeder. It took a few weeks, but our little finches are back. I'm very pleased and when the wind blows it doesn't take the seed with it. YEA!

We rescued this feeder from my father's trash after he thought it was "worn out" and needed replacing. At that time it was about 8 years old and the only thing that was "wrong" was that the tube had discolored a bit from the sun. Other than that, it was completely fine. That was two or three years ago and today is still going strong. Like another reviewer stated, it does hold a huge amount of seed, so refills are done less often. This Droll Yankee feeder is well worth it's price.

This is my second thistle feeder purhcase from Droll Yankees in about nine years. Yes, I still have the original one and it is in GREAT condition, but this year I had so many gold finches lining up that I had to get a second station! There was not a lot of room for improvement from the original model, but one new thing I did notice is that the horizontal tube at the very top that the wire hanger connects to is now made of the same metal that the perches are made of. My old one was made of plastic and the squirrels had started chewing on it -BUT they were NOT able to get in! These are made of high quality plastic that is durable and does not yellow like cheaper ones do. They also seem to be more squirell resistant.
