I had been splitting 16" hard maple and yellow birch with an 8 pound maul. There were occasions when I had to saw into the block 4-6" and then use a wedge to split it. The Fiskars super splitting axe usually cracks the block on the first attempt, and I have not had a block that I couldn't split. It's light weight, compared to the maul, requires much less energy and is a pleasure to use. I am extermely happy with this purchase.

Blade is too thin.Light weight,Very sharp and the best for the price for around home.Would not go on a safari with it

This axe goes through wood like a hot knife through butter. Well balanced and a pleasure to use.

This is a tough little axe for the size. I've been very happy with Gerber products although they don't come cheap. The only disadvantage to this axe is that it pretty light weight so it is difficult to split wood. But for chopping up wood for a campfire it is fine. The saw that comes in the handle cuts very well but it so too short to be very effective.

I just got this hatchet in the mail today and have been chopping large kindling with it all day and I'm extremely impressed. I can only say good things about it. First off the handle is unbreakable, it can even stand being run over by a truck! And the blade of the hatchet is very sharp and the steel is quite nice. I'm also planning on buying the 17-Inch Splitting Hatchet because I'm very satisfied with their line of axes/hatchets!

This Gerber camp axe with sheath (clam) is a beaut. It exudes quality. The 45905 is light and short, perfect for one hand use, but not to worry, this axe is balanced prefectly for splitting medium to large diameter (18-20") logs and for cutting logs, limbs, or trunks with ease. The blade is shaped well for splitting and the steel is first rate; it holds an edge well and sharpens easily. This is the hand axe all others should be compared to in the camp axe market. Moreover, the price is very good.

In Hawaii, we use these 'in the field' to trim Hawaii's many hiking trails. I am a thin wristed girl, and I LOVE this tool!!! It is so well balanced, light in the handle, and heavy in the blade--it just slices through the uluhe (thick fern), guava, and ginger. The zip soft cover makes it very streamlined to put in the backpack to carry around on a 10 mile hike. It far surpassed my expectations!!!

If you want a good balanced axe that works harder than you, this is the one. If you want an axe to look great and hang on the wall, purchase a Snow and Nealley. The S & N handle broke and the better Fiskar axe cost less than to replace the handle.

This knife has proven to be quite handy. I have used it mostly for chopping branches and cutting down small trees. The knife is built solid and the blade is weighted enough to carry through branches and saplings in one strike. This is a good knife in comparison to machetes and corn knives I have owned and used, but I think because of its size and design it will be much more versatile and useful.

The axe is a great size and works great. The only thing that I can think to say is that the metal is a little soft. It doesn't seem to slow it down though. It is durable and a great size. I love it!!
