I love my Big River harps. I have been playing harmonica for years, and nothing compares to this. As a child, I first became interested in the harmonica by watching A Chipmunk Christmas. As I aged, I realized a few things from this. First of all, there is no such thing as a Golden Echo Harmonica. Second, the harp music heard when Alvin plays Silent Night is in the Key of A, just like this harp. When I recorded my Harmonica Heaven CD, I played Silent Night on this harp. It sounds exactly the same as Alvin's Harmonica. If you're looking for a fine harp to play, I highly recommend buying a Big River Harp.

If you want to see what can be done with "bending" without extreme mouth and breathing contortions, this instrument is worth looking at. While I wouldn't recommend it for performances (it does "honk" easily), it is interesting and fun to experiment with.

Back when I was learning to play harmonica I tried many different styles and brands before discovering these Golden Melody harps. I really like the sound they produce and the ease of "bending" notes, even for beginners. I also really like the fact that all of the edges are rounded, making it much more comfortable on both your mouth and your hands. I know many of the greats swear by the "Marine Band" harmonica, and to tell the truth I wish the Golden Melody had wood instead of plastic edges, but I choose this one as my favorire based on the results I get with it. Now as for the key of F... I get a lot more use out of the keys of A and E, but thats another story...

People say these sound the same as the lower model, they do make the same notes, but they are much smoother and easier to play. I ordered a G also, and they are both very very smooth. It's totally worth the 10 more dollars in my opinion. And yes, it's a black METAL case, not the plastic - FYI.
