- These are so so, but I'm sure the Bose kicks their booty
I got these from my rewards deal on my credit card so I figured I'd try them out on a good 9hr trip to Germany by plane. I agree with the other reviews on here, they're ok, but not terrific at noise cancellation. You can hear plane movies better and music, but if there's a baby crying, or people talking, you're gonna hear all of that noise. To illustrate it best, imagine a waveform lasting 10 seconds or more horizontally plotted out, much like a jaggedy heart rate monitor. Ok, now imagine the noise on the plane is giving one of these waveforms about 1 inches thick from top peak to bottom. Ok, these headphones, I'd say are going to cut out about 1/8 inch off the top and bottom of the waveform so you're still left with about 3/4 inch total. 3/4 inch waveform making up noise/movie or music. ... They do not abolish noise completely but a good part of it. With these you are able to listen to classical music in a plane for example and you are able to listen at much lower volume to music, movies etc. I normally put them on even without connecting them to any audio just to filter out the noise from the engine. They also filter most of the noise from air-conditioning but not much of conversations, whining kids etc.
In my first set the rubber strap broke but sharper image replaced them without any questions since I bought the 2yr extended waranty.

- Headphones made by Creative Labs?
I saw these at the Sharper Image yesterday. They are identical to the pair that I own made by Creative Labs. They do a reasonable job, but the sound is pretty tinny. The only use that I can find for them is to watch movies in an airplane. There is some noise reduction, but they are useless for all but voices...music sounds terrible.
I paid about $30 for them from an on-line vendor.

- Doesn't Even Filter HVAC Noise....
I bought the headphones hoping to quiet the environment around me while I program computer applications. These headphones don't filter any outside noises, only half of an air conditioner duct noise. On the plus side, when turned them on and listened to music, the headphones produce music like I have never heard before! I am not sure about the added expandable headband as it goes against the grain in your hair. I plan to keep the headphones for my portable CD player, but for noise cancellation, I am still shopping around. I gave the second star for the Sharper Image customer service. I had an issue with shipping and they resolved it immediately. Always shop the Sharper Image, but opt for the higher priced headphones.
