Hohner makes a fine harmnica in their Meisterklasse models. I have them in keys of G, A, and D, and am saving to add additional keys. The curve and weight are, compared to the Blues Harp and Special 20 case styles, much more comfortable in my hands. The way the cover plates fit the holes and the slight texture to the ridge between makes these harmonicas especially comfortable for tongue blocking. For playing by pucker, and I play that way as well, it is easy to get a good seal on the individual notes. However I don't find the reeds are any easier to bend than the other models of Hohner diatonic harmonicas. If you play a lot of bent notes you may want to tweak the reeds and gaps or ahve them tweaked for you by one of the customizers. ... Read More

This looks like a large baby's rattle, but the sound is quite loud. I bought it to complement the Hohner 6 piece rhythm set and it does so nicely. I received the blue ones. It came in a bag with a one page brochure with some suggested songs/chants to try with it, separated by age range. Overall it seems pretty well made, and the noise is loud as one might expect. The size is larger that I thought they would be. I would estimate the round end to be almost as large as a tennis ball in diameter. The handles are comfortable to grasp. My daughter also has some cheap ones from the Simba music set, but these Hohner ones are much louder. I definitely recommend this to anyone looking for quality instruments for beginners.

I've been a performing musician for over thirty years and a harp player for about 20 years. I've tried Marine Band, Blues, cheap Korean, all kinds of harps and I don't think you get any more value than these Golden Melodies. Excellent tone, easy bending, and long lasting. The curved coeners make them more comfortable to grip and they just sound righteous. The only drawback is they don't hold well in my "mandies". (That metal contraption that Bob Dylan and others use to hold the harp while playing guitar at the same time.)

My folksy boyfiend always talked about how he wanted to learn to play the harmonica, but he didn't have one. For his birthday, I surprised him with the Hohner Special 20 Harmonica, Key of G and the Hohner Special 20, Key of C, as well as a case and a harness. He loves them! I decided on the Hohner Special 20 after some research. I read that they were a good harmonica for a first-time player; they were well made, but not so complicated that playing them would frustrate a first-timer. In two weeks, he has both of the harps broken in pretty well, and he can almost bend a reed. I would definitely reccomend the Special 20 harps for a first-time player, or as a gift for a harp player!

Been using for years --- the wood really gives it a great natural sound. Reeds last a reasonsble amount of time with moderate abuse. Can blow them them out but sounds GOOD doing it!

This harp is ok to have as a spare, but I would not recommend using it to learn on. It just sits in my truck as a spare harp to mess with during lunch breaks and when I have to wait on someone. It is alright for this, but its prob better to invest another 10 dollars and get a nicer one. The Marine Bands from hohner are a favorite of mine and are perfect to learn on. Its ok for the price.

We have had an Old Standby harmonica for years. My kids--ages 8 and under--have played and played with it, blowing it, biting it, stepping on it, throwing it. And the harmonica still works and sounds good. It is a very sturdy and dependable harmonica that is well constructed. Highly recommended. I also give them as gifts since they are not too pricey.

This functional, little harmonica is truly meant to be a charm or to serve as jewelry. I bought a chain for mine and I wear it outside my shirt. It starts conversations! Kids always ask me if it plays -- a great conversation starter with them. Price-wise, the cheap chain I purchased for the harmonica was more expensive than the harmonica itself. I love the thing!
