Musical Instruments : Epiphone MM-30E Acoustic-Electric Mandolin, Transparent Blue

The instrument looks beautiful and the sound is decent acoustically or plugged-in. The action needed some adjustment when I got it out of the box, which is not unprecedented. The only major flaw was that one of the string slots on the nut was cut too deep and I had to do a little glue job to get it working right. If you don't have any luthier's skills you may need to take this thing into a shop before you can use it properly.

Good value with nice sound. Great intermediate guitar, easy to
use high frets for rock or blues sound. At this price range,
this guitar is currently as near as my grandson can get to

I purchased this guitar over a year ago from Musicians Friend and was extremely pleased. This guitar allows for blazing hot leads and has low action and a fast neck. Only difference between the Epi model and the Gibson version is cost and the passive pickups. I rate this model 4 stars only because it does not come with standard 81/85 pickups that are found in other guitars that cost almost the same. Other than that, I am extremely happy with the craftsmanship and playability of this awesome axe.

57.Epiphone Les Paul Ultra-II Electric Guitar, Faded Cherry from: Epiphone

Musical Instruments : Epiphone Les Paul Ultra-II Electric Guitar, Faded Cherry

The Les Paul Ultra-II is a different beast. This is the original ultra, i purchased one two Augusts ago with a little maintenance it has defeated many of my other pricey guitars.

The sound is a bit murky like fellow Les Pauls before it, you can assume though a nice hard driven rock sound, and a cutting edge solo tone. The treble and rhythm feature such a strong contrast against each other. The rhythm sounds good enough to be used on clean channel unlike many other Les Pauls. The gold alnico humbuckers and tuning pegs really add to a nicer interpretation along with the stylized burst scattered body.

The guitars strap peg may fall out entirely, easy to fix. With multiple sessions put down on this guitar i find no reason why not to buy it, it endures well and plays as ... Read More

Musical Instruments : Epiphone Electric EFMB Mandobird IV, Vintage Sunburst
...add a 4-string Mandobird to the mix. Epiphone's edgy looking Thunderbird throwback mandolin is perfect for the fretboard enthusiast in your life. While it's clearly not a replacement for a good acoustic 8-string, it's definitely a heckuva lot of fun to pick with in a blues or electric set. Throw in your choice of effects to flavor, you'll be good to go.

Pros: good pegs + only 4 strings = easy to keep in tune; lightweight but solid body won't weigh you down but seems pretty durable; lots of novelty points when people think it's a mini-guitar and you tell them it's actually an electric mandolin

Cons: a little pop on the low string, but nothing a DI box doesn't take care of; cheap nut makes for slightly higher action on the high string, but nothing a quick setup won't ... Read More

60.Epiphone AJ-1 Acoustic Guitar, Natural from: Epiphone
Average Rating: out of 5 stars

Musical Instruments : Epiphone AJ-1 Acoustic Guitar, Natural
For an $80 guitar the wood, fit and finish is quite nice. Plays well.
The tuners are a little sloppy but they work.
The intonation isn't adjustable but is surprisingly 99% accurate.
