This was a great "wow" gift under the tree but for actual physical play it's life span is nill. Within the week after recieving it my eight year old daughter came to me with parts of the guitar that had fallen out. I have no idea what the guitar parts are called but it's the wood thingy that goes under the strings near the bottom. after I put that back I treid to re tume the strings only to find out that one of the string keys had no resistance, it just fell back leaving that string lax and off tune. sigh needless to say I would NOT purchase this agian and I suggest you consider a better built product as even though the price is great the longevity stinks.

We gave this guitar to our 2-year-old for Christmas. His daddy is a music junky and we have been really happy with this guitar. It is not only sturdy (has been banged around quite a bit already) but can actually be played like a real guitar (as my husband often does). And it's nice that it is not very expensive so in case it does break...it won't break the bank to replace it! The kids love it and so do we!

After finally tightening down the tuning lugs in the back to keep the strings in tune when open, it became apparent that the frets are in the wrong place. So going up each fret is not quite a half step. You have to go to the 13th fret to get an octave (mornally 12th fret). What this means for non-musicians is that even if the guitar is in tune, as soon as you put the finger of your left hand on the frets to play higher notes, they will always be out of tune and dissonant. There is no way to fix this. Therefore, this ends up being just a toy. A cute toy it is. Just don't plan on playing real guitar music on it.

He plays it constantly and I love his "concerts". But you must screw the strings tight before use (as many other reviewers noted). And, no, you are not going to get a perfectly tuned sound. But to see the smile on my son's face while he plays (and his little borther watching) makes it wort it.
