Alesis USB Mic Podcasting Kit with Headphones and Software I needed a good quality microphone to produce some powerpoint presentations using Camtasia. The microphone easily installs and functions beautifully. It also works great with speech to text applications. For the applications I use, a boom microphone with a headset is uncomfortable and I do not always want to monitor the recording as it is being produced. The headphones are ok and I had a bit of a problem getting the computer configured to work with them with the microphone but once I did they work fine. A good product at a reasonable price.

This is a great product. Easy to use and sounds great. I wish wouldn't have sold mine. I should have at least taken the sounds off...

As long as you aren't paying too much to have these shipped, it is a good buy overall. You won't get the volume that you might expect from a similarly priced stereo, but the sound quality is very good for listening to music, doing amateur recording, or just watching movies. They feel solid and take up very little room. The recording interface is a nice bonus and having a direct USB connection makes them extremely easy to set up on both PC and Macintosh. They are far from perfect, but for the price, I am not complaining.

I may be doing something wrong but this mic only appears capable of doing mono input. Only one channel shows up. It shows two output channels which is even more odd. Regardless, this mic will do a fine job recording podcasts. Includes a 3' (est.) USB cable for the mic. Headphones are comfortable and do a decent job blocking out external sound.

With so many in existence, it's inevitable that used ones are around to be had. A friend gave his to me, and it's perfect for my home recording studio, as a midi pad (I'm surprised at how much NEW ones cost these days, with not that many additional features!) No power supply, though, so I had to purchase this replacement. Great price, and it works perfectly. This is really a "step-down transformer," not an AC/DC converter, since the output is 9VAC, so it's hard to find a "generic" device. I've owned both the Micron along with some other VA gear such as the ms2000b and korg ea1. While I sold my Micron about a year ago due to its steep learning curve, I just recently decided to purchase another. Why? simply because now that I actually understand subtractive synthesis I'll be able to move beyond using the few "cheesy presets" that so many people seem to judge the synth by. Also its nice having an all in one box with which I can string together entire simple songs on. In my opinion the user interface isn't nearly as difficult as some people make it out to be, however it is not good for learning signal flow on. We have been using one of these mixers for more than 18 months now with no problems - it is a great starter mixer at a great price. It is the mixer recommended by the authors of the Podcast Solutions book - one of the first books on podcasting. You should keep in mind the limitations though - while you can have a number of inputs, the USB connection is going to mix everything down into a single track when it outputs. This means that you can't do post production editing on individual tracks. If you want to do this, you should look at the firewire version of this mixer. Otherwise, it is a great starter box and has been very reliable. Highly recommended.
