The Zoom H2 Handy Portable Stereo Recorder is an excellent piece of audio equipment. Once I changed my frame of reference from tape recording to digital recording, the H2 became easy to use and did everything I needed it to do. The microphone, sound quality and variety of recording options are first rate. The H2 has all of the ports needed for all of the connections I need to make. The fact that I can hear myself in the headphones (included) while I am speaking into the microphone gave me the real feel of the studio. The small stand (included), the mic stand adapter (included), the AC adapter (included), the protective pouch (included) and the tripod threads in the bottom of the unit, speaks volumes of the forethought that was put into the H2. The SD card also included made it possible for ... Read More

This was my "professional" quality recorder, and i am amazed at what it can do.

Pros:
Versatile!!!!
SD card memory
Runs on ac adapter, usb power, or battery power.
Record stand alone or as a computer interface
built in microphones are FLAT OUT SOLID.

Cons:
SD card is hard to take out
size - its a little large to use for recording yourself with a clip on mic and the recorder in a pocket if you use it for that setting.

These are very small negatives though, overall i love this product.

I am not a professional recorder, but this little unit amazed me. I was able to stand about 6 feet from an incredibly loud Rock and Roll musician and speakers and the recording was just like I heard at the show. My friends and I were simply blown away. Comments I heard were "I have to get one of those" and "It sounds incredible" among other rave comments.
I can't comment on the units specs as I don't really understand them, only the result which was astounding! My only complaint is that the maximum file size is 2 gigs which means that if you record at cd quality levels, you will either have to "split" the file or the unit will split it for you at 2 gigs. For a recorder that apparently will take up to a 16 gig card that seems petty and unnecessary. However, aside from that little limitation, ... Read More

In 1985 I bought a Sony WM-D6C Professional WalkMan Stereo Cassette recorder. I used it off and on but wished there was something lighter. I never got into the DAT recorders. Last year, I discovered that all the great Hi-end cassette tapes from Maxell and TDK were no longer being made and cassette tapes in general are being phased out. As a seasoned consumer electronics technician since 1977, I successfully rebuilt my WM-D6C for $97.00 in parts, but came to realize that I needed to get a digital recorder. Last year I purchased an Olympus DS-50. Then came the LS-10.

After my LS-10 arrived, I quickly discovered that even though you can load it with a 16GB SDHC card (after an easy firmware update) the file size for each recording is limited according to file type and bit rate. But that is something ... Read More

I have had friends who have used hand held recorders in various rehearsals and performances and I finally saw this one a couple of weeks ago. I was playing a wedding gig and one of the trumpets had this little device. He let me dink around with it when we were on break from one of the sets. I took a listen and wow I was blown away. This thing recorded excellently. I knew I had to have one.

I began to look at more of the features on this device and I now know that this is the ultimate practice helper. It gives you a tuner (very accurate), an amazing metronome (it can go as slow as 20bpm). For recording large ensembles and individual practices I think this is a great functioning unit. I am right now working on doing some quartets with myself. I also am planning on creating a warm-up cd for my students. ... Read More

This thing is great, love it very versatile and works exactly as advertised. The only thing that bugs me about it is that it needs an AC power source to run it. It would be cool if it ran off batteries too, then it would be truly portable.

Musical Instruments : Edirol R-09 WAVE/MP3 Recorder, Black
Mixed feelings about the R-09 four months after buying from Amazon. First, it came with dated software. I suppose this is the way things go with modern electronic devices. But you may have update your r-09 via your home PC. It was not that easy: I managed to get the 1.31 software downloaded with help from a friend who has an R-09. My unit shipped in 6/08; 1.31 was released by Roland in 9/07. Without the update, my unit wouldn't accept a 4 gig card. Haven't tried an 8 gig. I use the r-09 to record live music. You may want to set the r-09 to record in mp-3 format, as wave takes alot of memory. A four gig card will only last a few hours. The r-09 generally works well. I've been careful with the back hinge after reading all the reviews. Currently my r-09 isn't recording -- something's wrong with it. Still haven't ... Read More

Do not buy this from vendor. Must be a ripp off from Edirol. If you go to the Edirol site and look at the image you will notice small, but very signifigant differences. This cover actually covers much of the micraphones and is much cheaper that what is displayed on the Edirol site. Really, do not purchase this. The Edirol recorder is great - this cover makes it terrible.
