Finally the Donny and Marie albums have been released on cd. I grew up with them and had the hugest crush on Marie. I loved their music and their television show. I saw them in concert 3 times.

These two albums were my favorite. The first does have some cuts from earlier releases but it was their first venture into more current pop music and had all the songs from their show. It does have them doing more solo work than duets but that is fine for it leads into the masterpiece NEW SEASON.

Right when the vocals start on AIN'T NOTHING LIKE THE REAL THING you know they have come into their own. The song and their voices combined are magical. I love this whole cd and the music is not dated. YOU BROKE MY HEART and NOW WE'RE TOGETHER are the biggest winners as is Marie's ... Read More

Grapefruit only recorded two albums and two handfuls of singles during their short existance from 1967-1970. So this BBC release is obviously a very welcome addition for fans of the band.

Promoted as the band that was launched and tipped for the top by the Beatles, most of their BBC recordings have been saved for the future; unlike many other "minor" bands of the 1960's. Moreover their songs were published by Apple Publishing, so their connection to the Beatles was relatively strong.

Though some songs bear an unmistakably Beatles influence, their music never really sound like the "Fab Four". Led by George Alexander, brother of George Young of the Easybeats, they had a versatile and prolific songwriter, who contributed most of their recorded material. Actually some tracks ... Read More

This 50 track double Cd gives a musical insight into what the Irish Showbands were up to during the 1960's. From the opening track, a brilliant interpretation of The Shirelles classic "Boys" by Dickie Rock and The Miami, to the closing track, Brendan Bowyer and the Royal Showbands powerful performance of Neil Diamond's "Sweet Caroline",this CD proves that the Showbands were very much the equal of their British and American musical counterparts. Whether you're a Sixties fan or just a person with fond memories of the Showband period this CD release is a must for your collection.

I bought the album after seeing the stage show, "Jersey Boys". My wife and I loved the show, and wanted to experience the the good feelings of the period when the group was one of our favorites!

That Frankie Valli and the 4 Seasons songbook is filled with recognizable, melodic and popular harmonies is a well known fact. The art of making a play based on an artists songbook is not new and has met with varying degrees of success, proving one thing, to really play well, there must be written a strong book to go with the music.

In the case of Jersey Boys, the book is excellent. So good, that it elicits in the observer the emotions of a first rate melodrama; laughs, interesting characterizations and yes, a few tears here and there. The playwrights found enough drama in the true (ok, mostly true) story of the "Boys" to use it as their book. It is a fairly typical story of the rise to fame, complete with egos run amok, vanity on parade, jealousies and financial scandal. Another ... Read More

This is a pretty good LP from the 60's. . . A real lost gem and a worthwhile addition to anyone's collection -- especially those fond of music of the 60's.

However, I gave them 4 stars because of a "lack" of originality. Maybe I'm a bit harsh. After all, why would a young group want to be "original" when you have John and Yoko as mentors? Yet, the music does bring back fond memories of an era gone by. Imagine. . . if you would. . .

Ah, its the late 60's at No.3 Seville Row in England. The Apple Scruffs, bikers, and businessmen from the area are hanging out and having a drink or two at the Apple Offices. Paul McCartney is working with Badfinger or Mary Hopkin, George and Ringo are trying to figure out what their futures hold. John and Yoko -- well, they just "discovered" ... Read More
