This collection of Ballroom Dance Music is one of the best I've found.The collection reflects good rhythmn as opposed to melody which is essential for DANCE music.Disc's 1 and 3 are excellent but I found Disc 2 to be weak.To be honest I have never found a Dance collection which I could rate as excellent.Most suffer from outdated,(not classic's which are timeless) best forgotten tunes and/or weak rhythmns.

Graham Dalby and the Grahamophones deliver all instrumental, strict-tempo dance music that compares favorably with recordings by the Columbia Ballroom Orchestra and the Swiss Ballroom Orchestra. These recordings were made in August, 1994, and the selection of music was supervised by Sarah Seagers. She is both a dance teacher and a member of the London Ballroom Society. The strict tempos are helpful for newer dancers because the beat does not change except for a slight slowing at the end of the track. The waltzes tend to be a little faster than today's competition standards. The foxtrots are listed with two speeds: foxtrot and slow foxtrot. This music is supposed to be for ballroom dancing, but I don't think any of it is danceable. The tempo and rhythm are there, and sambas are recognizable as sambas, and paso dobles are paso dobles, but the character isn't in the music. I think this CD is more appropriate in the elevator or in a lounge where you could drink a cup of tea, read newspaper, and think how to waste the rest of the afternoon. Not one of the tracks on this CD made me feel like I want to dance. Cha-chas were especially horrible.

I can really relate to the messages in some of her songs. Also, her vocal style is very sharpand uplifting, with just the right effects. A very well produced CD!

Those of you that don't get it, the title stands for the ocean liner by that name from the early 1980's when the vinyl version came out. And this CD is of a distinct British Flavor with several tracks. Overall I think this CD is much better than the one I just reviewed called "Platinum". From the sounds of what could be a Gypsy camp to the sounds of Old England, a good CD!
