This is a CD of the famous 14 waltzes by Chopin. Although played correct technically I found that I did not feel any emotion from pianist. It is missing something, i cannot excactly describe what. It'll like the pianist is playing the music as homework and just has to get it over with.

I had an original old tape version that was destroyed and wanted to replace it. is this cd actually played by Dubravka Tomsic, I don't know, after feeling a bit dry, I discovered that other reviewers questioned whether it was actually played by this famous person (who to be honest I don't know). It;s missing something, but the pieces are played correctly on time, on queue, and in technical fashion.

The reviewer who described these performances as limp was off the mark. Stefan Ashkenase maybe, but not Harasiewicz.

If you prefer having Chopin's music aimed as an act of aggression towards the balcony, you will be happier with Rubinstein's CDs, and his recordings are miked more closely, too.

These performances of Harasiewicz are designed for long and pleasant acquaintance. They are neither limp nor bland. They are not obvious or thunderous, either. They are thoughtful and loving, and powerful when necessary, but only then.

The Waltzes by Chopin are not a very popular series of pieces to listeners, and there are much fewer recordings of them than Chopin's when compared with the Etudes or Nocturnes. Chopin's waltzes, composed during the waltz craze in the late eighteenth century, transformed the dance music into something more delicate and gentle in accordance to his music style. The Waltzes express ideas that range from boisterous dance movements to lyrical and smooth flowing music. Yet with such a disparity, underlying these pieces is a strict waltz tempo and a concentration on the beat and meter which are perhaps not found in Chopin's other works. The CD begins with the Valse Brillante that comes in with repeated attacks of a single key before the waltz starts proper. The Waltzes in Op.34 of A Flat and F Major, among ... Read More
