Andrew Lloyd Webber made it again. Much better than the overrated CATS, this musical brings some memorable songs such as "Love Changes Everything" and "Seeing is Believing" wich are oftenly found in Broadway selection albums. Besides, the story is very attractive and the staging seems to have been very suggestive, despite being a "chamber" musical. It's a pity that it became a flop.

Thomas Stevens is one of the best modern players putting out recordings. Excellent sound, impeccable technique, and solid style make the album a staple for any collection. The George Antheil Sonata is particularly good, graceful and exciting. The Hans Werner Henze is also worth hearing, and the New Carnival of Venice is interesting and amusing.

Johann Strauss Jr. "The Waltz King", composer of such brilliant waltzes as The Blue Danube, Tales From The Vienna Woods, and Vienna Blood, composed several operettas (short, comic operas) at the end of his life. Jacques Offenbach of Paris started the trend, but it was laterp picked up by Viennese opera lovers. It was definately opera, but it is the equivalent of a funny, romantic and sometimes fantastic or exotic sitcom. The characters were stereotypical (an arrogant playboy, an old prude, a jolly fat man) and the characters were often involve in romantic triangles and often stumbled into danger, but always the finale was a charming, happy ending.
