...... I'd have never bought this cd were it not for the backing by the John Pizzarelli trio. Thank you, John. Karen Moore can really sing!!! The first time through it, I was a bit disappointed. There are several numbers that are more blues than jazz. But after three or four listens it has become one of my favorites. I know the marketed is flooded with female jazz vocalists right now, and it's getting harded to pick up on all of them, but I sure recommend you give some serious thought to this one. [....]

One of the most insightful, eloquent, and fun songwriters working today, Cheryl Wheeler is a treasure to listen to on Sylvia Hotel, whether she's singing a thoughtful ballad like "If It Were Up to Me," a touching tribute like "His Hometown," or a fun bit of wordplay like "Potato." Her serious songs don't evoke sadness as much as consideration, and her more light-hearted tunes are always well-crafted reminders that we shouldn't take ourselves too seriously. It's only life, after all.

I can't tell you if Sylvia Hotel is her best, worst, or what-have-you -- I like pretty much everything she writes and sings. What I CAN tell you is that if you enjoy singer/songwriters with a brain who can write smart lyrics that sound deceivingly simple and clear, you'll like this album. And, in ... Read More

Kind of like wildflowers, but with a 70's sound. YEP!! 70's sound. I really think though, tom petty should stick to the HEART-BREAKERS and a new CD. AS WELL AS A GR. HITS #2. We need more albums with those GUYS. There getting old, don't waste there time , not makeing new albums. ALSO : To TOM PETTY.....Make a remake of the song " BROWN EYED GIRL ( Van-morrison ) ".............And put it on your next album...THAT SONG FITS YOUR STYLE and it would sound awsome with your voise.....REALLY.

I bought this album several years ago, because I wanted to hear some newer Don McLean music. I saw him in concert in July 03, and he was great. I got my copy of "American Pie" signed, and it was one of the coolest moments of my life. He sang "Jump" which is on Prime Time. The best song on this album is "If You Can Dream" and I would recommend it if only for that song.
