This installment of the dream dance series contains many great songs from several years ago... I bought this CD after I had purchased some of the more recent installments in the Dream Dance series. It was definitely worth it! Great to listen to at high volumes!

John Williams gets a lot of the credit for the revival of the motion picture film score, mainly on the strength of his work for "Jaws" and "Star Wars." I can remember reading the linear notes for the double-album of the later which explained how each character had a theme and how Williams wove these all together. That was all impressive, and "Star Wars" is certainly on my list of Top 10 soundtracks of all time, but I saw "Once Upon A Time In The West" a decade earlier and so I know that Ennio Morricone had already done that. For me in the decade of the Sixties the only other comparable film scores for an epic film are what Maurice Jarre did for "Lawrence of Arabia" and "Doctor Zhivago." Still, I will maintain that no film score in that decade was as important to the story being told as Morricone's ... Read More

I love the music of E.Morricone, and bought this disk since it had so many titles that I wanted. But although the songs are great, I found the performances - by the city of prague philharmonic - to be quite weak. There is very little emotion conveyed - and the emotion is what makes E.M.'s music so compelling. Even worse, the performance differs from what you remember in the movies - e.g. the good bad and ugly track had no chorus (no grunts); the mission soundtrack sounds like a symphonic rendition without the catholic power. Stick to the original soundtracks.

Whether you're a Georgia Satellites fan or a B5 fan, this is one hell of a ride. Franke has never rocked harder. The propulsive melody lines and the kicking refrains suggest a strangely somber boisterousnesss. Imagine Ambassador Molari stoned out of his gourd with a few hard drivin good ol' boys, and you'll have a good idea of what this music is trying to say. The "Space Battle" track subtly suggests many of the recurring themes found in the better Satellites sides, and the "Ivanova's Closing Statements" track brings to mind the bourbon breathed insouciance of "Hippy Hippy Shake." Buy this CD and I guarantee you'll wanna get Ivanova all liqoured up in the back of your pickup truck.

The layering of instruments on this CD is quite noticeable. Yo-yo ma cello gives Ennio's scores a painfully haunting sound but still beautiful. I love scores and but none has made such a moving impression on me quite as this CD did. If you enjoy this CD, you should try also Itzhak Perlman's version of The Love theme from Cinema Paradiso and Schindler's List theme (of John WIlliams).
