The title of this compilation is "Star Wars", and half the CD consists of the concert suite from the original Star Wars movie. I have to say this is one of the most mediocre orchestral renditions of Star Wars Episode IV that I have heard. That being said, This CD is still worth purchasing if you can find it. The "Cantina Band" track is a cool big band arrangement, which isn't too bad. Richard Hayman's arrangement of 2001 is quite good with a jazzy extension after the end of the fanfare,the Battlestar Galactica track is the best track on the CD mixing the main title and other themes from the show. Meteor is a good track, simply because this is the only compilation I have heard this track up until Silva's Space 3 a couple years ago. The Alien and Close Encounters tracks are so-so.

i purchased this cd thinking it would contain traditional renditions of the listed material. i was in for a surpise. while Theme from Star Wars, Yoda's Theme [Star Wars], Darth Vader's Theme [Star Wars], Conversation [From Close Encounters of the Third Kind], Apperance of the Visitors [From Close Encounters of the Third Kind] and Blue Danube [From 2001: A Space Odyssey] are what i expected, the remainder of the cd is orchestral/disco versions of the originals. i must say i was quite unhappy initially, as i am no fan of disco. but this cd quickly grew on me. in fact, i listen to it at least once a day while working. i'm not sure, but i think the Theme from "Close Encounters of the Third Kind] is the same as the disco hit from the late '70s. all in all, once the shock wore off, i was very satisfied ... Jazz and all that implies. Yes, four decades of it on four discs. Brubeck, Torme, Garner, Ellington, Davis, Hancock, they are all here plus many others. The book that comes with this set is very good. It's the sort of thing I look for in a boxed set. I not only like the music and discs, but I like to have information and photos and this set has it all. Above average all around.
