More than 30 years after I listened to this album in college I am still listening to it while doing my daily exercise. If, like me, you enjoy listening to the Dixie Chicks while ripping off a 10K on a Concept II Ergometer, you should definitely add this recording to your playlist.

Three of the songs on this album are included on her "greatest hits" CD but this CD also includes

-"I Want to Lay Down Beside You"
-"Someday My Love May Grow"
-"Memory of Your Smile"

- all really great songs which would each be worth the cost of this CD.

While I don't own this collection, I have access to it through a library. At 87 CDs, it's hard to know where to start. I started at the beginning, and have been enjoying it immensely. I started by going through the nine symphonies, all conducted by Herbert von Karajan. Now, I've heard many versions of the nine symphonies, and I've heard some pretty crappy renditions. This isn't one of them. This is a top-quality recording of Beethoven's greatest legacy.

I have to admit listening to the next few volumes somewhat absentmindedly, not giving serious attention to it until I got to the 32 piano sonatas, which are arguably the heart of the collection. As a pianist myself, I've chugged through plenty of these sonatas, and I've listened to dozens of versions of some of them. The only ... Read More

I bought this CD when it first came out. I listened to it at a bookstore and was moved. McNally on low whistle (shown on cd cover), has produced one of the most emotional albums I have ever heard. EVERYONE who hears it simply stops talking and asks, "Who IS this!?" Then they buy one and so should you.

I first heard Eric Bogle singing "And the Band Played Waltzing Matilda" and never forgot that song. A friend introduced me to Willie McBride (Green Fields of France) and I cried listening to that antiwar song. Bogle does that again with his wonderful heartbreaking tribute to Kate Wolf in "Katie and the Dreamtime Land," which just breaks my heart and speaks loudly about his friendship with this wonderful American singer/songwriter who died too young.

His other songs on this album are equally fine: his wonderful song about bigotry and mistreatment of immigrants ("Poor Bugger Charlie") which is relevant today in the States. One of my favorites is "Harry's Wife," about a woman left to fend with her husband's departure for a younger model. And of course Rosie about a friend's child with cerebral palsey. ... Read More
