Warhorse is a really good hard rock band from the early 70's. Some of the guitar soloing reminds me of Tony Iommi from Black Sabbath, while the bluesy solos sound a bit like Ritchie Blackmore.

I think the lead singer is like the guy from the Texas rock band, Bloodrock, who released their first album in 1970 as well. Sometimes he comes off kind of obnoxious, like in "Ritual" where it's REALLY hard getting into those vocals the first time you hear them. With some time and patience however, it all seems to click.

"Vulture Blood" is just a really good heavy rock song with a speedy guitar riff and fast vocals. Good stuff. "Burning" should have been a classic because the vocals are really spectacular, the organ work is just brilliant, and the guitar solos are comparable ... Read More

I have Go and Go Live on vinyl. Many years ago a good friend and Stevie Winwood fanatic turned me on to this album. To me it's like the "Lost Pink Floyd" album. Like the sequel to "Dark Side of the Moon." It's every bit as spacey and every bit as well composed and well played (Maybe even better).
I have yet to pick up the complete Go Sessions, but will as soon as the budget allows. I just listened to the LP's the other night after not hearing them in years. They hold up well. This is a "band" I'd love to see reunite and tour!

9.Naito: Strings & Time from: Composers Recordings

Naito's music is somewhat in the orbit of the late Toru Takemitsu, Japan's superstar composer, with whom Naito was quite close. This is to say that the harmonic world will strike a Westerner as French until listening deeper and discovering a uniquely Japanese musical aesthetic which has assimilated some Western formal ideas, assimilating them into Japanese musical traditions.

I find all of these pieces to be very strong. My favorite is Winter Shadow, for two guitars, with William Anderson and Oren Fader. In this work there are two movements. The first has rich harmonies and achieves a real sense of multidimensionality. The second movement is free structually, with spectacular bottle-neck slide playing, pizzicato, and rasqueado techniques.

I ordered this from All That Is Heavy and instantly regretted it, doubting that I would actually enjoy the clean, theatrical vocals. Boy, was I wrong. I know everybody loves Messiah Marcolin and poo-poos Johan Langqvist. But I think the latter is as strong a singer as the former, and if you'd like to compare, this version of Epicus Doomicus Metallicus comes with a handy live CD on which Messiah sings.

As for the music aside from the vocals, it is perfectly heavy and perfectly slow. I mean, you even have some early (and sluggish) blast-beats on this record.

All in all, great stuff, especially with the bonus live disc. Quite highly recommended.
