This collection is not original recordings but a combination of "The Big Hits" and "House of Strangers". If you're a die hard collecter and want the cover art etc, go for it. If you are looking for original recordings, this is not what you want.

This boxed set is in a beautiful case with an impressive colour booklet and his comments on all the songs. I can't fault the lovely presentation, and yet as a product it falls short of what it could have been. Instead of 3 disks, why not use the space in the large box for 4 disks? And why include all the songs that every fan or even casual listener already knows? The truly fascinating ones were the demos and rarities. The set should have contained ONLY demos, rarities and alternate takes. We already have all the other songs and do not need them again! In fact I have THREE different greatest hits compilations besides this one, because I was trying to get all the tracks I did not have. I really enjoyed getting this one - it rounds out my collection and pleasantly surprised me with the guest spots of Helen Reddy and "the Fonz." My grandchildren already have memorized "Sweet Caroline" and love to belt it out. Talk about "A Diamond is Forever!" I'm a fan, took my Mom to see him many years ago, my daughters, and now my grandchildren love him. How many entertainers can boast being totally loved by FOUR generations! I popped it into the CD player and breezed through my housework. As usual, it arrived on time and in great shape and was very affordable. AND, the CD inspired me to get myself some tickets to see Neil Diamond recently in Philadelphia. What a Master Entertainer STILL! He has his own unique voice and beat, and the same gifted musicians and singers still backing him up.

There are 12 tracks. Six are based on vocals by the Hawaiian female Kapiolani, with some contributions by Lyman. The vocals are weak. Tracks 6, 7, 9, 11 are excellent instrumentals, and 12 is jazzy. Adios Marquita Linda was my reason for buying, and it's one of the best songs ever. If you can get it at a good price it can be worth it. This is a reissue of his 1975 album on the GNP Crescendo label. The sound has loads of resonance.

A few weeks ago I caught TIE A YELLOW RIBBON on an oldies station for the first time in many, many years. I saw the price for this album in Amazon.com and well, this was a no-brainer. The album has some other nice songs which you may also remmeber and which I may never get to play but TIE A YELLOW RIBBON is just one of those songs I've loved all of my life and am really glad I finally got on CD.
