I picked up this 4-disc set from CostCo years ago for about $[...]. I immediately realized this was a great buy. Together, the four discs provide a good sampling of classical music from the Baroque period to the mid Romance period; basically the 1700s and 1800's. The set leaves out the most famous pieces, such as Beethoven's 9th, Mozart's operas, and the ballets by Tchaikovsky. Instead, it has less-famous but still popular works such as pieces of Mozart's symphonies, Pictures at an Exhibition, and Dvorak's Slavonic Dances. The set has pieces from dozens of composers from all of Europe, East and West. The sound quality is great, and each CD has over an hour of music. Best of all, the musical pieces are complete, no shortened excerpts. All in all, a great set for the price.

I was looking for seomthing new to listen to during massage, and I like classic music. What I realized when I listened to this and several more like it, is that it is all kind of boring. The reason I suppose is because there were only a limited number of composers in the last couple of centures, especially 17th through 19th centuries, so we've all heard it all before... Nevertheless, this is a nice CD, very pleasant versions of classic works.

I had this collection and lost it in 2000 when moving to a new house. I took me a time to find it but after having it again I can say it is the most valuable selection of classic music, it is truly the 100 top masterpieces and the sound is excellent.

This CD is a collection of favorites done with the precision and grace that is the hallmark of the Cantilena ensemble. The range of artists and pieces provides an interesting variety that is a pleasure to listen to. The first time I heard a piece from this album, I went in search of it. Classical string music being a favorite of mine, I find this recording exquisitely fine. The complexity of Bach only adds to the performance. I hope others share this enjoyment!
